[h=1]How Much Money Does Batman V Superman Need To Make?[/h]

In a week (as of this writing), Zack Snyder’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice will finally hit theaters, culminating a nearly three year journey that began at San Diego Comic-Con 2013, when the project was first announced. As the real launching point for the anticipated DC Extended Universe, it’s not an understatement to say there is a considerable amount of pressure riding on the film’s success. Warner Bros. feels as if they have a winner, already scheduling a full slate of DC Comics adaptations between now and 2020 (moving on production with Wonder Woman and Justice League Part One), but after the divided response Man of Steel generated, the jury is still out on how the public will respond.
The mixed word-of-mouth for Snyder’s Superman reboot contributed to a lower box office haul then expected: $668 million worldwide. Man of Steel proved profitable enough to launch a franchise, but in the age of $1 billion or bust, WB was surely hoping for more. After all, films based on less-recognizable titles like Guardians of the Galaxy and Deadpool managed to top Man of Steel‘s totals, so the hope is Batman V Superman will be able to as well. Just how much does Dawn of Justice need to make, though?

According to a report in Variety, Snyder’s latest film needs to gross $800 million globally in order to turn a profit. As one might expect, bringing Batman and Superman together on the big screen was a pricey endeavor. The production budget ran as high as $250 million, with marketing costs contributing another $150 million at least. One media analyst told the outlet that anything under a $1 billion box office intake could be considered a disappointment, but fortunately WB has other means of recouping their investment besides ticket sales.
The film is expected to bring in massive revenue via merchandise and licensing partnerships, and the film will also benefit from a substantial TV rights deal once it’s done playing in theaters. In addition, the home media release should turn a pretty penny, particularly since it will include an R-rated version of the movie, which is sure to turn some heads and boost sales (if only out of morbid curiosity). With all those other sources of income, Batman V Superman should have no problems getting in the black by the time it’s all said and done. However, box office figures will the most public and immediate indicators at audience interest in the continuing adventures of the DCEU.

If the target is anywhere between $800 – $1 billion worldwide, there’s little reason to doubt that Dawn of Justice can pass the high end of that spectrum. This is a real cinematic event, the first time two of the greatest superheroes in all of comics appear in the same live-action film. It’s also Wonder Woman’s movie debut and will feature the beginnings of the new Justice League. Regardless of how comic book fans feel about certain casting decisions or spoiler-filled trailers, there are plenty of selling points available to hook casual audiences. This is something most people have waited their whole lives to see, and it’s finally becoming a reality.
Batman V Superman also has an advantage because of when it’s hitting theaters. In spring, the marketplace isn’t as crowded. Previous DC films like the Dark Knight trilogy and Man of Steel came out in the middle of the far more competitive summer season, and were still financial successes. If the goal is to beat the $1 billion posted by the last two installments of Christopher Nolan’s Batman series, Dawn of Justice should be able to do that. It will be the only blockbuster in town for a few weeks (Jungle Book doesn’t come out until April 15), so unless My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 is in high demand, WB will have a massive hit on their hands – especially if the reviews are mostly positive.
And that’s what this boils down to. Much like Star Wars: The Force Awakens, it’s all but a given that Batman V Superman will be lucrative commercially. If the DCEU is to live long and prosper, it needs high marks from critics and fans in regard to quality. With an Oscar-winner in Chris Terrio writing the script, and a talented cast bringing life to some of DC’s biggest icons, the hope is that the end result will be something more favorable than its predecessor. It won’t be much longer until moviegoers find out for themselves.

[h=1]Batman V Superman ‘Came Close’ To Featuring The Riddler & The Joker[/h]

It’s not exactly a secret that Zack Snyder’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice has a lot on its plate. The film has to continue the story for Henry Cavill’s Clark Kent, while also introducing a plethora of new characters to the blossoming DC Extended Universe. Among the high profile additions are Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jesse Eisenberg as the new Lex Luthor, and possible cameos for other members of the Justice League. Even with 2.5 hours to cover everything, some feel as if Snyder has bitten off more than he can chew and overstuffed his latest comic book adaptation.
Even though there’s a fairly large ensemble in Batman V Superman, Snyder did show some restraint in how many characters were included. Not only were entire roles removed from the theatrical cut (Jena Malone), some never made it past the developmental stage. At one point, classic Batman villains the Joker and the Riddler were meant to be shown, but Snyder ultimately decided against it.

Snyder revealed this tidbit to Collider, saying that he and screenwriter Chris Terrio spent a considerable amount of time discussing how it could work before reaching the conclusion that it would be for Batman V Superman‘s benefit if the evildoers did not appear:

“The Joker and The Riddler both came close to being in this movie. We talked about the possibility of putting them in. [Screenwriter] Chris Terrio and I talked about it a lot and felt that their mythological presence is felt in the movie and that’s cool, but I didn’t want to get my eye too far off the ball because I needed to spend the time, frankly, with Batman and Superman to understand the conflict.”
Based on what we know about Dawn of Justice, it’s very difficult to see how the Riddler or the Joker could have fit into the story naturally. The philosophical and physical battle of wills between the two titular heroes is set to take up a considerable amount of screen time, before Batman and Superman set aside their differences to stop a larger threat in Doomsday (with the aid of Wonder Woman). The Riddler and the Joker are intimidating menaces in their own right, but they typically do not require the combined strength of three superheroes to be defeated, so their inclusion would in all likelihood come across as forced without contributing much to the overall narrative of Batman V Superman. It’s wisest that Snyder held off on using them.

Even though the Gotham rogues won’t be making a physical appearance in the film, Batman V Superman isn’t going to ignore them entirely. One of the Dawn of Justice trailers includes Bruce Wayne mentioning his city’s troubled history with “freaks dressed like clowns,” and the Joker seems to be the one behind the defacing of a Robin costume seen in the new Batcave (alluding to Jason Todd’s murder in the comic storyline “A Death in the Family”). Smaller nuggets and Easter eggs like that are a smarter, more logical way of highlighting the built-in history of the world without taking away from the central focus of the movie. If the Riddler and/or the Joker showed up and didn’t have much to do, it would be disappointing for fans and be reminiscent of the failed universe building in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
Warner Bros. obviously has big plans for the Joker, with Jared Leto a principal player in this summer’s Suicide Squad, but it will be interesting to see if the Riddler factors into a later film. He was an antagonist in Joel Schumacher’s Batman Forever, which is hardly a definitive take on the character. It would be nice to see the Riddler get rebooted within the DCEU continuity as a strong, compelling villain for a solo Batman movie. Viewers will just have to wait and see.

Four days remaining, SO HYPED UP!! I just hope I get a chance to watch it in the first week of release.

In other news, the fans are going rampant, voting 10/10 on IMDB. This tradition will never end I suppose for a hyped release. The movie is currently 9.6 there with almost 8000 votes. :p

Can someone help me get 2D tickets in rwp/isb region the cinemas i have checked are showing 3D version only.
So far all shows are in 3D. This is a common practice. There is a very VERY VERY little chance that any 3D movie will have 2D versions being shown at the same time. Most oftenly it happens when something is wrong with the 3D projector and they have to switch to 2D.

And this sucks cause I personally do not like 3D. There is just something fake about it and it doesn't resonate with me as a whole, especially the cinematography. I want my movies to remain in 2D. :p
I always feel like watching the movie again in 2D soon after watching it in 3D but have to wait months for a good print. -_-
