A-o-A all,
Almost 2 months back a reputable member OmMeE started a poll & thread about ASUS official presence in Pakistan. Unfortunately things did not turn out as expected and now he is facing quite a criticism and humiliation from some forum members. At this moment, i find it deem necessary to clear something a bit to let people know what the actual story was.
First of all, OmMeE did what he was asked to do as i was the one who seek his support (and i am really thankful to him for doing his best) to start that thread and spread the news and development.
Being a technology lover and enthusiast myself i always wanted to do something for this very community we all belong to. Dreaming to see world renowned PC components brand in this country i put my best efforts working with importers, distris and actual manufacturers (like GALAXY COMPUTERS for Cooler Master and Corsair, eCom, SHINGTECH, ASUS TAIWAN and finally THERMALTAKE) to bring in the quality products. But unfortunately, due to a very small market, consisting of end users with a very limited knowledge and understanding of PC components, it was and still it is very difficult to attract known manufacturers from all over the world along with the local importers. There are handful of end users that poses adequate knowledge about those brands and majority can't even differentiate among different variations/generations of a particular component. Same is true for people who are importing and selling PC related stuff. Though, situation is changing slowly as people are getting aware of technical jargon, realizing their needs and demanding accordingly. Several tech forums and other print media are also spreading the knowledge among the readers and every single effort by any individual in this regard deserves appreciation.
Now coming back to the point........After months and years of voluntarily efforts, i managed to convince ASUS Taiwan in declaring their official presence here just like INTEL Pakistan to monitor our market needs and problems face by the end user of their products. As SHINGTECH is the only distributor of ASUS products in Pakistan, it was decided that SHINGTECH will conduct all the ASUS business transactions as usual but now there will be some checks and balances (like competitive product pricing, better warranty, services, RMA etc). It was also decided that ASUS will open its own PRIVILEGE CENTER and a sale point, first in Karachi, for displaying their products, interactive products demonstration and customer feedback.
ASUS products availability, pricing and warranty were the main issues so initially as an Operation Head, working in close co-ordination with SHINGTECH, i diverted all my focus to those issues and succeeded in resolving at least 2 to some extent (pricing and warranty). But eventually, CAPITALISM soon got in the way and SHINGTECH managed to hi-jack ASUS TECHNOLOGY PAKISTAN and later the project was shelved for indefinite time period
I am still very optimistic that as the market size grows and the end users keep on getting educated, we will see new brands and players coming to the market (like IAMEXTREME) bringing in some quality stuff. 5 years back it was hard to find couple of branded products but now we see plenty.
