I have got to be the unluckiest android owner in all of Lahore, if not Pakistan. :/ I have a DAMN EXPENSIVE android phone that most people have probably never heard of. It's an Acer Stream. I got it for 55k last year, and this is where the Acer Stream stands now: No custom roms, support abandoned by Acer themselves, meaning that I can't get 2.3 on my phone. I'm stuck with 2.2. Absolutely nothing. This phone has decent specs but there's no love for this phone.

Okay, so fine. There's plenty of android devices that don't have custom roms. That's what I eventually came to accept, and I was content. But now, I've come across this major pain in the ass problem. The phone's wifi is dead! Everytime I try to connect it tries to turn on but then it doesn't and then shows 'error'. Sometimes it does but then it runs fine for half a minute then my phone either gets stuck then runs back normal but with the 'error' notification back again, or the phone resets itself. I'm currently running 2.2 on it, but I actually started having this issue when I had 2.1 on it. I thought upgrading would solve the problem but it did not.

Do you know what it's like to own an 'android' phone that doesn't have friggin' wifi?! GAY! :( I can't stand it. I've had this problem for months now and I've searched high and low on the internet. This problem is a little common, android phones with their wifi not working. But there's been a number of solutions for all those. Only those solutions were custom kernels, or custom OTA updates, or custom something! CUSTOM. Something that my phone can't get :(

So here's the thing. I am considering 3rd party help anyway, a shop or something. But this phone, it's different. It's one of a kind in Lahore. I can't just simply give it out to any random person in hafeez center so he can fuck it up. So is there anybody in Lahore that can help me with restoring my Android phone's wifi? I'm not exactly a noob at Android but I don't know too much either.

By God i was here to help you out with your probelm. I thought i will drop by your house and we'll DO this piece-of-cake.
Until i read the name of your device i.e. Acer Stream, and then it all went to hell :p

I mean, i just finished search over whole damn google, over XDA, over CynogenMod ... there is NOTHING for this phone. NOTHING
And in a way i am impressed with the lameness of developers here because a phone of this specs CANNOT be left alone.

So there i am, being unable to help you i can only suggest you. And that would be to Sale It.

However, if we look at the sepcs, they are very similar to most of the Android devices out there.
800x480 AMOLED screen (impressive part is AMOLED)
a 1Ghz Processor wi/ Andreno 200 GPU (Snapdraggon Chipset)
A 5MP camera with 720p video recoding (but at 24fps)
And a decent 512MB RAM (which would be shared w/System)

Well, Theoratically it MAY be able to run any other phone's ROM matching its specs. But i am not a person who does 'tajarbaat' with a device i dont own. So ... yea.

If your recovery mode is working, then do you think you can do a nandroid backup of your device? OR even if you can "Dump" the firmware using Odin (if its possible)
And then do that little 'practical' on your own risk?

This is why you have to research before throwing money for any expensive phone.

Why didn't you buy something NOT ACER...I ask this because the Acer ROM community is almost as bad as the Huawei community!

Remember, for Android phones, roms are your only hope once a vendor stops supporting the device (which is now around 18 months from release for most of them)...so you need ROMs if you want to get faster updates than vendors and you need ROMs once that 18 month period is over. The only exception to all of that is if you have a Nexus phone.

Well, it's a hand-me-down from my dad actually. I just know how much it was for because I saw the price tag xD He gave it to me after a year, and got himself an HTC Desire S (Soo beautiful T_T) Of course that phone now he bought was when I was there. Thank GOD I was there, otherwise he would have been fooled into buying another Acer or some crap LG or something by those sales reps at the phone kiosks again! That's how he got this Acer phone in the first place. >_>

There's no point selling it really. It's not gonna sell at all. It's got no box with it now. it's an Acer. It has no demand. People here go like 'yaar acer bhi phones banata hai?' -.-. And worst of all, no wifi. I'd be lucky if it sold for 5k >.> I might as well keep the phone. Live with this phone for another year i guess. Because other than it's wifi complication, I like this phone. One unique thing with this phone is Dolby mobile. The sound of this phone is amazing when I'm listening to songs thanks to Dobly mobile.

Just like everything that it doesn't have, It doesn't have a recovery mod made for it. There's that little boot thingi when I press the volume up and down keys which only shows the clean boot option. And then there's the clockwork rom manager in which there's that boot where it shows android system recovery 3e. That shows reboot system now, apply sdcard update, wipe data factory reset, and wipe cache partition. This is ofcourse without a clockwork recovery for my phone. There is no clockwork mod recovery for my phone, let alone any recovery image to begin with.

THIS, although, is the closest they got with a recovery for the acer stream i guess. Just that it's too much jargon for me. I don't understand too much of the jargon here :/
