Hi,

Are there any active professional game developers on PG. I know a few but it would be nice to know if there is anyone else. I would like to start a little game developer community here. So that we can share our experiences and help out each other as well as the people who want to get into the profession.

This project functions as a game demonstration for my portfolio, it's a Quake-style shooter with some not-very-bright bots. My renderer supports DX9/DX10 and OpenGL (though incomplete), my engine isn't based on any libs though DirectSound/FMOD for audio and PhysX/Bullet for physics are optional.

Hi, I knew about you already seeing your active participation on this forum and saw some of your work, which btw is great. As for me I have been involved in game development for about 9 years out of which I have been developing games/simulations professionally for about 8 years now. Used to be an avid gamer but dont get that much time these days especially since I mostly played multiplayer games and most of my old friends/clan mates are not available anymore :(. These days I am working on a couple of projects (3D PC games).

So I assume thats its more of a renderer. What sort of feature set does it support?

It's more than a renderer, I also have AI (navigation mesh generation + usage), physics (Quake 3 style, not rigid body), networking, sound, scripting (with my C interpreter), etc. I had a list somewhere here, but it supports Doom3/Quake4 .proc maps, Unreal .t3d maps and has a map compiler for polygon soup + portal polygons. Besides the usual sector/portal system, there's also an occlusion cell visibility system, good character controllers with animation and IK support, post processing effects and a few other features which I don't remember off the top of my head.

Hi there,
Hope you are doing good. So whats stopping you from making that dream a reality. Are you a student or already working in some other field?

Yeah I am sort of a student (I leave it to you to deduce the meaning of the word 'sort' in this context :p )

Anyway, me and a couple of friends did participated in the game development competition of imagine cup 2011 and we have made it to the semi finals ;)

Well, here is the gameplay video we submitted at round#1, once its a bit more complete, I would upload the entire game.

Oh and I know I am pretty bad at english, so I wouldn't mind if you don't laugh

And we joined the competition pretty late, and we had only around 2 days to spare to the game (considering the assignment work load). But we would have a much better game for the semi-finals :D

Well about the competition, its a student's competition of different tiers, they have a multimedia competition, a software development competition, an IT competition and a game competition (three in fact)
you can see the details here:

You reap what you sow. This is what happens when you take away choice from consumers. Even with 88% split going to developers, they can't recoup costs. Meanwhile, Helldivers 2 is a massive hit for Sony thanks in big part to Steam.
