As for the OP's question, I do believe that there are Aliens, intelligent, probably even more than us. And I do want to believe that they will contact us in the near future or atleast during the time I'm in this world, although whenever I think about the ODDS of contact, it saddens me, universe is just too DAMN VAST. :p

well you people should study theory of parallel universes. It is mathematically proven and it can give you answers.

it was either my teacher or my uncle. Both are credible.
There must be some sort of evidence for a revelation that is supposed to be authentically divine. Otherwise, it is just a hearsay and should not be taken seriously or spread around without verification.

I second what you say, we live in a world with such smart technologies. If there were aliens we should have atleast picked up some signs or signals by now.

I, for one, believe in the multi verse theory.
Yaar the universe is ever expanding so, statistically, it's possible for intelligent life to be present somewhere other than the earth (if you can call us humans as intelligent :p)

Also, religiously speaking, I think there can be life in the universe cause in Surah Fatiha, Allah (SWT) says that He is 'rabb-al-aalamin'. So, personally, I believe there can be many other worlds which we don't know of or can't perceive.
JBTW this is only MY OPINION and my interpretation. Please don't take it seriously. I don't want to start a religious debate here.

Both are Islamic and history scholar. That's why I quoted it here.

I believe E.T lifeform has existed long before humans ever did. We're merely "newcomers" on the galactic scene so to speak. Let's just forget about the parallel universe theory, and think for a moment that we've yet to explore our own system and how little we know about it yet, despite all the advances we've made so far.

The universe or "multi-verse" is a big place. If we're the only ones here, seems like an awful waste of space to me

If you people are curious about the total number of civilizations like "ours" exist in the galaxy. Then look no further than this equation:

N = R fp ne fl fi fc L

where:
N = the number of civilizations in our galaxy with which radio-communication might be possible (i.e. which are on our current past light cone);and

R
[SUB]*[/SUB] = the average rate of star formation in our galaxy

f[SUB]p[/SUB] = the fraction of those stars that have planets

n[SUB]e[/SUB] = the average number of planets that can potentially support life per star that has planets

f[SUB]l[/SUB] = the fraction of planets that could support life that actually develop life at some point

f[SUB]i[/SUB] = the fraction of planets with life that actually go on to develop intelligent life (civilizations)

f[SUB]c[/SUB] = the fraction of civilizations that develop a technology that releases detectable signs of their existence into space

L = the length of time for which such civilizations release detectable signals into space[SUP][8][/SUP]

This is taken from here

Also, there are numerous reasons we haven't or couldn't possibly establish contact with other races yet, these may be:

  1. Few, if any, other civilizations currently exist
  2. No other civilizations have arisen
  3. It is the nature of intelligent life to destroy itself
  4. It is the nature of intelligent life to destroy others
  5. Life is periodically destroyed by naturally occurring events
  6. Human beings were created alone [RARE EARTH HYPOTHESIS]
  7. Intelligent civilizations are too far apart in space or time
  8. It is too expensive to spread physically throughout the galaxy
  9. Human beings have not been searching long enough
  10. Humans are not listening properly
  11. Aliens aren't monitoring Earth because Earth is not superhabitable
  12. Civilizations broadcast detectable radio signals only for a brief period of time
  13. They are too busy online
  14. Earth is deliberately not contacted (the zoo hypothesis)
  15. Earth is purposely isolated (planetarium hypothesis)
  16. They are here unobserved

only we are not the explorers here in this universe. I believe that there are many more scattered there.
Also there are 7 more dimensions containing life. Paranormal are also live forms. Made from some other matter.
But among all other live forms we are superior (read Quran for more).

Well certainly nothing can approach the speed of light but if some thing enters another dimension it will follow new laws and than these books dont imply there. so it can travel with more speed and leave that dimension than it may be in another galaxy in few seconds.

There's probably more life out there then we can even imagine.
And that's just one small part of the sky Hubble pointed at. The Kepler telescope has already uncovered far more than what Hubble had uncovered in its years of accumulation of data. The Drake's equation perfectly demonstrates this point. There could literally be millions of civilizations in our own Milky Way Galaxy, or there could be none, except inert carbon compounds.

And let's not forget the other galaxies in the local group, especially the M31 (Adromeda).

EDIT: Fans of astronomy should give a try to this simulator. Just sayin' :D

NASA to send human flight to Mars

Mars exploration has become one of imperative subjects in space research on which the scientists of NASA and other space agencies working ambitiously. NASA has announced that they are on the verge to finalize the extensive assessment of the Space Launch System (SLS), the high class, gigantic rocket which is supposed to take the humans to the planet Mars by 2018.

NASA officials have approved the program’s development in technical aspects and made developments in evaluating hardware of the rocket. Now the scientists are embarked on to take rocket to the first flight test. For initial testing, SLS will be designed for a 70-metric ton lift capacity and carry a non-crew Orion spacecraft beyond low earth orbit.
In its most powerful configuration, the rocket will be installed with an extraordinary lift capacity of 130 metric tons, which hopefully will allow the space program to go for exploration even beyond the solar system, something no other exploration class vehicle has achieved since the agency built the space shuttle.
The decision of the test flights came after a comprehensive evaluation known as Key Decision Point C (KDP-C). The program will undergo a development cost of $7.021 billion for the 70-metric ton version of the SLS.
SLS will be the world’s most capable rocket. In addition to opening new frontiers for explorers traveling aboard the Orion capsule, it can also assist other space missions potentially.
The next phase of development for SLS is the Critical Design Review, a programmatic gate that confirms the agency’s sureness in the program planning and technical risk posture.

Umm, what about reuseable rockets developed by SpaceX & Virgin Galactic :O ? I thought NASA completely stopped working on the space shuttles & rockets. They're too expensive to launch and begin. What they truly need is a low-orbit launching pad which can propel space-crafts towards their intended trajectories with minimum expenditure possible. Unless the technology improves significantly like it did towards the end of 19th-20th Century, it will remain a pipe dream. We don't see radical inventions as much as we saw towards the earlier 20th Century. All we see are improvisations on current tech that was invented 100 years ago.

Maybe the human race has become a lot stupider as time went on, as is pointed out in the Fermi paradox.
