ommee is rite.they are loud.have checked all 6.but if u screw them with a rubber bush in between, the noise level is reduced.but they are so fast that if u keep it on the floor, the jet of air pushes back the fan

Assalamoalikum,

I have two of these fans and I am using them as exhaust fans from my AC room to another room.

A few things which I want make clear about them are :

1, The guy from which I purchased them said they are not exactly 120mm. They are like 130mm so must be very difficult to fit in casing if not impossible. But didn't tried installing them in case myself because I have purchased them as simple exhaust fans.

2, They have insane amount of noise. Like a tornado running.

3, They draw huge amount of amperes. I am running them with a spare generic PC PSU (400 watts) and it can't handle two of them, they are running on slow speed because PSU does not have enough to feed them.

4, They have extreme airflow.

I can't comment on price because its a rule on PG not to comment on someone else's price tag but these are few facts about them which I want to highlight.

i think the noise can be lowered by connecting it to a fan controller or a simple variable resistor

Assalamoalikum,

The safety cover of these fans are easy to remove just turn them to unlock and pull them out. However the method of variable resistor won't work with these as they draw a lot amperes from power supply which will fry any variable resistor you connect in between, a better method which I want to suggest for lowering the speed and thus noise is to use 7 volts from your power supply instead of 12 volts. The power connectors in PSU's have 4 wires 2 black, 1 yellow and 1 red.

If you use yellow as positive and red as negative (in normal cases we use any black as negative to get 12 volts). You will get 7 volts instead of 12 which will lower the speed as well as noise. However you have to make a custom connector yourself so that it will only connect to yellow and red.

nice.didnt know

but why would it fry a variable resister? a vr is only going to divide the voltage isnt it.if u keep the resistance on max,say a 1000ohms and then go on reducing it?

Assalamoalikum,

The rheostat will fry because of high amount of amperes passing through the coil.

And regarding PSU method, actually you can draw three types of different voltages from your PSU power connector, here how you get it done.

1, Use yellow as positive and any black wire as negative (for 12 volts, the traditional method).
2, Use yellow as positive and red as negative (for 7 volts, works great for reducing fan noise).
3, Use red as positive and any black as negative (for 5 volts, this can be used to light up some LEDs in your case).

Computer PSU is a very versatile electric supply, you can use it for variety of purposes.

You reap what you sow. This is what happens when you take away choice from consumers. Even with 88% split going to developers, they can't recoup costs. Meanwhile, Helldivers 2 is a massive hit for Sony thanks in big part to Steam.
