The contrast ratio you are talking about does not matter in real life. Your eye can't notice that much difference. The main thing is 1000:1 Dynamic which matters. I haven't used an Asus before but some members here bought it and kept complaining that the viewing angles are crap. As for me I have been using Samsung LCD and LED's.
The first panel I got had a dead pixel so they gave me a new one after a lot of hassle. But they replaced it with just one dead pixel. Normally its 3 to 4. Samsung is the largest producer of LCD's and LED's. On my thread someone told me not to go for S24B350H. The colour reproduction isn't that good. Personally I didn't liked the Asus monitor at all. It's up to you really. I'd recommend Samsung. Oh and the the brightness is very high. You have to reduce it or you'll get a headache.
