[h=2]Sony confirms next PS4 system update adds suspend/resume, button mapping and more[/h]

Sony confirmed details of the next system update (version 2.50) for PlayStation 4 today, which adds the long-promised suspend/resume feature, a host of new accessibility options and 60 frames per second support for Remote Play and Share Play.

Details on PS4 system software 2.50 leaked last week when Sony Computer Entertainment sent an email to PlayStation MVPs with information on a new beta testing program for the update. Early reports from those using the firmware early showed that PS4 owners will soon be able to put the system into rest mode without closing open applications, then resume using them upon waking up the system. The suspend/resume feature was announced two years ago, when Sony first unveiled the PS4.

SCEA director of product planning and software innovation Scott McCarthy says the new suspend/resume option will be supported by "nearly all PS4 titles."
"When it's time to log off, simply put your PS4 in Rest Mode and when you power up the next time, you'll start your game where you left off," McCarthy wrote on the PlayStation Blog.

PS4 system software 2.50 includes a number of other new features, including the option to upgrade a PSN sub-account to a master account directly from the console; the ability to search for PSN friends via a linked Facebook account; the ability to share video clips to Dailymotion; and Remote Play and Share Play at 60 fps.

The update also includes two key PlayStation Trophy updates. The PS4 will automatically capture a screenshot when a Trophy is earned and players can remove games from their Trophy list that have zero percent completion.

New accessibility options in version 2.50 include "include text to speech, enlarged text, bolder fonts, higher contrast UI, zoom for displayed pictures, invert colors on screen and more." Players will also be able to remap buttons on the DualShock 4 controller.

[h=2]Sony brings a huge update to PS4 tomorrow[/h]

A major software update coming to PlayStation 4 tomorrow will bring a number of requested features to the system that Sony says will enhance the social aspects of its console.

The update, which is codenamed "Yukimura," includes a new suspend/resume feature that will allow gamers to jump in and out of games quickly and pick up where they left off. The patch will also allow users to search for fellow gaming friends on Facebook and easily view what their friends are playing with the addition of a "Friends Who Play This" section on each game detail page.

In fact, Sony appears to be making more of a push toward social networking site integration overall. A new feature is coming tomorrow that automatically take a screenshot when a Trophy is earned and which can then be shared online. Users can also sort their Trophy list into new categories, like "Earned Date," "Not Earned" and "Grade," and have the option to remove games from the Trophy list that have zero percent completion.

Likewise, players will have the ability to upload video clips directly to Dailymotion, while Twitter-like verified accounts will also be introduced for games industry professionals, developers, producers, designers and community managers. These accounts will feature badges that designate the account is verified.

Sony is also working to improve and expand its accessibility options, making it easier for gamers with impaired vision and limited manual dexterity to play. Customized button assignment for the controller and a zoom feature for displayed pictures, as well as inverted colors, will be available after the update. Similarly, text-to-speech and enlarged text will be made available.

PlayStation Vita systems and PlayStation App for smartphones will also receive system software updates tomorrow, and will get complimentary features to those added on PS4. The PS Vita update version 3.50 and PlayStation App update version 2.50 will add new accessibility options, including enlarge text and increase contrast.

[h=2]PlayStation 4's 3.00 update, delivering YouTube streaming, goes live tomorrow[/h]

PlayStation 4's system software 3.00 goes live to users tomorrow, following a monthlong test of new features in a closed beta.
System 3.00 will introduce streaming gameplay to YouTube as well as uploading 10-second clips directly to Twitter. Users also will be able to save screenshots in the higher-resolution PNG format.

The update introduces a suite of social improvements to keep players informed of what's going on in games they own, and several UI enhancements.
PlayStation Plus gets a dedicated section on the home screen, taking users to a page where they can manage the features of their premium membership.
An events hub also will also come to the home screen, offering a look at activities and official broadcasts involving games users are frequently playing. Messaging other PSN users now offers a stickers option similar to other direct message services on social media.
For more, see this recap on the PlayStation Blog.

[h=2]PlayStation 4's next big update arrives tomorrow, adds PC remote play[/h][h=3]Dailymotion now a broadcast option on PlayStation 4, other social features added[/h]

The PlayStation 4's newest software update will be out tomorrow, April 6, adding PC remote play capabilities, a new live streaming channel, and several improvements to its social networking features, among others.
With the update, the PS4 will support remote play on PCs running Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 or later and Mac OS X 10.10 and 10.11. Dailymotion has been added as a broadcast option for streaming gameplay.

Of the new social features, users may now choose to appear offline; be notified when their friends come online; schedule events with their friends so that all are automatically added to a party at a certain date and time; and view what everyone in a party is playing so that members may more easily join one another's games.
Additionally, a new PlayStation Plus hub will direct users to easier access and management of their online storage, plus the latest free games offered by the service. A PlayStation Network Status box has been added to the Settings > Network tab, too.
There are more changes coming with update 3.50; see them here. The PlayStation 4's last major software update came in September.

[h=2]PS4 firmware update coming soon to streamline the interface[/h][h=3]Beta participants are getting it now[/h]

The PlayStation 4's next major system update, version 4.00, will bring new functions that users have requested, including the ability to create folders to organize content within the console's library, and longer video clip uploads to Twitter.
The update, codenamed Shingen, will arrive soon for those enrolled in PlayStation's public beta program. (They will be notified by email how to download the update).

The Quick Menu, called up by holding the PS button on the controller, will now only cover a portion of the screen rather than take it over completely. It will include new items to streamline visual information to the user.
The main user interface will also get a series of design changes ranging from new system backgrounds to a different look for system icons. "As a whole, it all adds up to a more refined and easy to use UI," Sony said in a blog post. "The overall look and feel of the UI remains the same — it just has a fresh coat of paint."
The Share Menu will now, like the Quick menu, cover only a portion of the screen. It will default to the most recent social network to which the user shared a clip or an image, and for Twitter, game clips can now be up to 140 seconds long, instead of the original 10.
Improvements to Trophy management will allow users to see their collection even if offline. More details on the update are available here.

[h=2]PS4 software update 4.00 is out tomorrow, here’s what’s new[/h][h=3]All the new features coming to your console[/h]

https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=y2kvMCXdqjM

All PlayStation 4 owners will gain access to the console’s latest firmware starting tomorrow, bringing about several features previously beta-tested and teased by Sony in recent weeks. Among the features in version 4.00 detailed on the PlayStation Blog are those prepping for the Nov. 10 release of the high-end PS4 Pro, as well as menu tweaks and the just announced HDR compatibility for the entire PS4 range.
As testers have already seen, version 4.00 simplifies the Quick Menu to obscure less of the screen, add customization options and make it more accessible without exiting a gameplay session. New to the official launch of the system update are Spotify controls that let console owners play music from the app without opening it directly.

The What’s New menu has also been altered with a revised Activity Feed, offering more details about the gaming habits of a player’s social network. Games’ content info screens are similarly tweaked and will be quickly accessible from the home screen.
Sony told console owners last week that all PS4 systems would receive high dynamic range (HDR) compatibility, and that data from current systems could be carried over to the new ones. Both of those features will be available starting tomorrow; although the PS4 Pro ships ready to output HDR content, all other consoles will also gain the ability to do so with the version 4.00 firmware. (It’s important to note that there won’t be any HDR-compatible games available tomorrow, however.) Transferring games, saved data and user info will also be possible over a wired LAN connection after the update.
PlayStation Europe recaps all of the new features above; watch that for a live preview of the update. A PS4 owner wanting to upgrade but unwilling to wait until November can also check out the slimmer PS4, arriving Sept. 15.

PS4 System Software Update 4.50 Features Detailed

Starting today, those of you selected for our beta program will get an early peek at some of the new features coming to PS4 with our next major system software update, version 4.50 (codenamed Sasuke). If you signed up for the beta and were chosen, you’ll receive an email with instructions on how to download and get started.
Even if you’re not participating in the beta, we still wanted to give you a quick glance of the key features that will be rolling out with this update. We’re refining the user interface of PS4 even further, and adding highly requested features like external HDD support and custom wallpapers.
External HDD Support

It’s easy to upgrade the HDD that came with your PS4, but if you’re still looking for more storage space on the console, we’ve got you covered. With this update, you have the option to store content to an external HDD. Just plug a USB 3.0 HDD into your PS4, and voilà, you now have more space on the console.

This is compatible with HDDs up to 8TB in size. You can download and install applications directly to your extra storage, and the saved contents are easily manageable through the settings menu.
Also, all the applications saved in the external HDD will appear in the Content Launcher of the Home Screen so it’s easy to keep track of what apps you launched recently.
Please note: user save files are still stored locally on your PS4 HDD. Only games and applications are stored externally.
Custom Wallpapers

This update adds the ability to set your favorite in-game screenshot as the background image for PS4’s home screen. Drop-shadows on text, and the option to dim the Function Area, will help keep the system icons and texts on the home screen clearly visible even if the background image you selected is super bright.

You can also edit screenshots using Photo Mode in Sharefactory to make your one-and-only custom wallpaper.
Quick Menu Refresh

As you may know, in the last system update we overhauled the PS4 Quick Menu feature (the menu that appears after a long press of the PS button on DualShock 4).

This update brings additional improvements to make it even more accessible. Now the Quick Menu will cover even less of your gameplay screen, and you’ll be able to access handy Party features via Online Friends, like creating new parties, inviting friends, and joining parties, without transitioning to the separate Party app. The goal is to keep you in the game — and not stuck in menus.
Simplified Notification List

Before this update, the Notifications app had a variety of tabs on the left-hand side, like Game Alerts, Downloads, Uploads, and more. We’ve condensed all of the tabs to a single simplified list, making it easier to see all of your notifications all at-a-glance.

You can also quickly access the Notification settings from the Options Menu to turn off or customize which pop-up notifications appear on your screen, so you’re only being notified about your top priorities.
Post on PlayStation Network Activity Feeds

We’re adding the ability to post directly into the Activity Feed, which appears in a variety of places across the console, including What’s New. Under What’s New, you’ll see a new option to post things like text, screenshots, and gifs directly into your Activity Feed. You can also tag games or other users to make sure they don’t miss your post. It’s a great way to show off your greatest triumphs.
Tying into this new feature, Live from PlayStation will show screenshots that users uploaded to PSN as a Public Activity, so you can show off your best gameplay moments not only to your friends, but to users around the globe.
3D Blu-rays on PlayStation VR

If you’re a fan of 3D movies, and you own PlayStation VR, we’ve got good news — this update adds the ability to view 3D movies in stereoscopic 3D directly on the PS VR headset. Grab some popcorn and enjoy!
There are more features included in 4.50, so make sure to keep an eye out for additional info, including launch timing, in the weeks to come.

[h=1]New PS4 firmware update refreshes PlayStation app icons[/h]

[h=2]Flat design is in[/h]

Sony released a new system software update for the PlayStation 4 today, and while the company’s official patch notes don’t indicate any major changes, eagle-eyed folks may notice that the firmware updated the icons for a bunch of PlayStation services.

Here are the two “main features” of system software update 4.70, according to Sony:

  • In tournaments, you can now view match results for each player.
  • This system software update improves system performance.
What Sony doesn’t tell you is that it also changed the icons for apps such as the PlayStation Store, PlayStation Vue and PlayStation Now. You can check out a full accounting of the changes in the image below. As you can see, the clean new icons conform to the tenets offlat design, which is all the rage these days.

Yeah I heard the same from one guy at office..rest said it worked for them
Well I updated mine and it started giving a black screen on boot, but it was working. I turned off the console using the controller commands from memory lol. Booted into safe mode and rebuilt database. Been running fine so far.
