If they continue their stupid "Minor stability" updates while Microsoft provides major updates every month....there will be a shift in the console equilibrium very soon. These little things count a lot when it comes to consumer

You're right, Xbox One is getting major update next month which includes 3D bluray support, battery notifications etc while Sony is just releasing tiny updates for system stability, though this update did helped me, my PS4's fan used to run even in standby mode like if I'm playing a game and even nothing was downloading in the background. After the update it has become normal! :wink2:

Anyone out there who has updated his console to V1.74 and have noticed that the disc does not stop spinning? I mean the disc spins for almost 10 minutes when you insert a disc. Contacted Sony Support VIA their live chat option and they said it's a new feature added. :/
Here's what they told me "Ok thank you for holding, the main reason why the disc runs once the games is already installed is because as you said before, the previously version of the software only install the game and the file that the Disc copy to the PS4 is not enough to support a whole life of a gamer, sometimes it freeze, sometimes its stops, sometimes the graphics are not the best and at the point the PS4 start running the game to have a more powerful back up to run the games, in that way this updates will support all those fails."

[h=2]Share Play on PS4 will let you play with friends, even if they don't own your game[/h]

The 2.00 system software update for PlayStation 4 this fall will introduce a feature called Share Play that lets you invite friends to play a game, even if they don't own a copy.

According to a post on the PlayStation Blog today by by Scott McCarthy, director of product planning and software innovation at Sony Computer Entertainment America, Share Play works like a "virtual couch."

"With this first-of-its-kind feature, you'll be able to play games with a friend just as if you were together in the same room," McCarthy wrote. "Let's say that with games ... you'll be able to invite your friend online to play against the Miami Heat for the championship as the San Antonio Spurs in NBA2K, tackle the challenging Towerfall Ascension Quest Mode together, or aide, heal and protect you as Igniculus in Child of Light's local co-op mode."

Share Play will also let users virtually hand control of their game over to a friend, as if they were sitting in the same room.

The 2.00 update will also introduce a dedicated YouTube app and the ability to upload captured game footage to the video service. The What's New section of the PS4's interface will be updated to include new links to friends' broadcasts. A real name search will also make its way into the interface.

[h=1]Themes coming to PS4 with Update 2.0[/h]

They didn’t share if this would mean dynamic themes or static themes, but themes in general will offer a nice break from the static blue background of the PS4′s XMB.Something PS4 owners have been clamoring for since the system’s launch last November are customization options including themes to make your XMB more personal. Well at Gamescom Sony announced System Software Update 2.0 which would bring SharePlay among other features to the platform.
As for the other features, it looks like one of those will be themes. The PlayStation Blog crew was discussing the update on the latest episode of the PlayStation Blogcast and 1 hour and 16 minutes into the episode, they announced that themes would be making their way to the PS4 in this update.

[h=2]PS4 firmware 2.0 to add music playback, dashboard customization, library sorting, more (update)[/h]

The list of features in PlayStation 4 system software update 2.0 continues to grow, with new elements now including further customization options for the dashboard and better sorting for your game library, Sony announced today.

Firmware 2.0 is codenamed "Masamune," presumably for the renowned swordsmith from feudal Japan. The update is led by Share Play, which Sony detailed during Gamescom 2014 in August. It will also bring themes to the PS4, and Sony said today that users will additionally be able to change the background color of the dashboard from its default blue to one of seven other hues: gold, dark blue, red, green, purple, pink and gray.

Another new feature in firmware 2.0 is the ability to listen to music while you play games, without using Sony's Music Unlimited service. However, this will only work for files on USB storage; you still won't be able to copy media to the PS4's internal hard drive. The USB Music Player will support files including MP3 and M4A audio, and MP4 and 3GP video.

Sony is also redesigning what it calls the PS4's Content Area, the horizontal list of all your games and apps. With firmware 2.0, the space will be limited to the 15 most recently used items, while the rest will remain in the Library. The Library itself is being improved with sorting options to filter by name, type and more. And free PlayStation Plus games will now have an "Add to Library" button in the PlayStation Store, so you can secure them for future use without having to start the download.

Other additions to the PS4 in update 2.0 include enhanced voice commands, improved live broadcasting and a "Players You May Know" tile in the What's New tab that shows you PlayStation Network users whom your friends play with frequently. Sony also plans to release system software version 3.35 for PlayStation Vita and PlayStation TV around the same time as Masamune; that update will add support for four-player Remote Play to those systems. In addition, the Live from PlayStation app will arrive on those devices at that time. And finally, Sony is also working on a version 2.0 update for the PlayStation mobile app on Android and iOS for the same launch window.

Masamune is set for release this fall on PS4. According to Scott McCarthy, director of product planning and software innovation at Sony Computer Entertainment America, there are more features for the update that have yet to be announced. You can check out screenshots of the firmware above.

Update: After the publishing of this article, Sony updated its blog post to say that the USB backup feature will not, in fact, be part of system software update 2.0. We've edited our story to reflect this.

[h=2]Sony beta testing new PS4 firmware version 2.50, includes suspend mode[/h]

Sony is letting select PlayStation 4 owners beta test the system's upcoming firmware, version 2.50, according to apparently leaked emails sent to PlayStation MVPs. The update will supposedly bring with it a long-awaited feature: the ability to put the PS4 into rest mode without shutting down games and applications.

According to an alleged screenshot of a leaked email from Sony, some PS4 owners will be able to beta test version 2.50 of the system's firmware if they opt-in. Selected PlayStation MVPs will apparently receive a message via PlayStation Network and a voucher to download the beta system software by March 9.

Other features supposedly coming in the new PS4 firmware include the option to delete PlayStation Trophies with zero percent completion and the ability to Share Play games at 60 frames per second.

Sony giving PS4 owners the option to preview upcoming system software updates before they roll out to everyone follows similar efforts from Microsoft. The Xbox maker started its Preview Program last year, letting select Xbox One users get an advanced look at system software updates. Microsoft is extending the program to Xbox 360 this year.

You can now also replace O with X, meaning those with japanese PS3 can now use X to enter instead of O and vice versa

[h=2]PS4 firmware 2.50 to add accessibility options, enable backup games to storage, says leak[/h]

The next firmware patch for the PlayStation 4 will deliver a range of accessibility options, plus the ability to back up games to an external drive, according to leaked images.

The word got out this weekend from a Twitter user, through a friend with beta access to the new firmware. Suspend/Resume also will now function with Netflix. "The PS4 will pick up where you're watching and not just reboot the entire app," says user isaparrot. "It's really in memory."

Overall, the PS4's operating system has gotten a new coat of polish. "PS4 took the best parts of Vita's OS and polished a lot of things," isaparrot wrote.

As for the accessibility features, shown in this image below, options include Text to Speech, Invert Colors, Larger Text, Bold Text, High Contrast, Closed Captions, Button Assignment and Add to Quick Menu.

Add to Quick Menu "adds a link to the accessibility menu on the quick menu page" brought up when a user holds down the PlayStation button, isaparrot said.
There's no word on when update 2.50 will arrive for the public.

Polygon has reached out to PlayStation representatives in the U.S. to ask for comment and will update this post with any they make.

Update: A PlayStation representative responds:

The next PS4 system software update will be released soon, and its features are currently being processed for quality assurance. We will have more information on the update to share shortly.
