Official Cricket Discussion - "Fire vs Fire" series is underway

He has been given enough chances. Asad Shafiq has played 43 ODIs and doesn't have a single 100 to his name. And it's not like he's sent way down the order.
In his last five ODI innings, he has scored two ducks, one four, a ten and a forty one. Go back three more matches and he has another two single-digit scores.

There's no doubt he's talented. But we have players warming the bench who may perform better than him and deserve their chance.
We could give Azhar Ali a chance?

What's wrong with Haris Sohail/Umar Amin?
Oh no. Nothing is wrong with them. Just that Azhar Ali has been dropped a lot of times in favour of Malik or Shafiq despite his great performances. (y)

You are right, we should actually give Haris Sohail or Umar Amin a chance.

Haris Sohail's domestic stats are superb! Averages 40 in List A at an SR of 88!
I honestly don't understand the logic behind Misbah's "winning combination" theory. I guess it's a good thing the winning combo lost because otherwise we may not see any changes being made to the side.

Anyway, the second Ashes Test will be played today at Lord's. I love the atmosphere at that ground. Feels so 'Sir' like :D
Nothing like a dose of controversy to make you play good. Here's an interesting stat; Australia haven't lost a Test at Lord's since 1934.

You can call it a fluke if it happens once in a career, yes.
err.. that wasn't his career's best you know. The word 'fluke' is clearly misused here, I said it before, you cannot call an inning's performance a fluke.

I just quoted his stats and yeah, they're bad. I see no reason to include a bowler in the playing XI on the basis of his batting ability alone.

Afridi is a star for the demented. And yeah I don't rate him any higher than Wahab Riaz.

His ODI record in England is actually poor. Averages 37 with the ball and 6 with the bat. Anyway a sample size of 3 ODIs is too small so I won't hold these stats against him.

Just like what they see in Malik, Farhat, Kamran Akmal..............
Every pace expert from Wasim to Waqar has commented on his inability to learn how to correctly position his wrist. I wouldn't have minded had he set the cricketing world alight with his sideways seam but all I see is him bowling wide of the crease and using the angle that naturally comes with it. With little effect may I add.

James Anderson faced a similar problem early in his career. But he learned and look at him now. I've observed Wahab bowling for the last five years and nothing has changed except his pace (which has increased).

Variations nevertheless. Bowling back of the hand slower balls is useless unless it's effective. Malinga's clever use of the slower ball is an example.
You know, this is the second time you argued on something that wasn't there or said. Wahab is the better bowler, he's selected on his batting alone, I never said. You made that up..

Perhaps you are not getting me well or may be I wasn't clear enough (?) so I'll try once more to put my thoughts up here again. It's apparent that Junaid is the best choice out of the two, yet Wahab was selected in the playing squad. You confirmed it was due to rotation policy. I merely stated after 'I think' this may be not be the whole reason, this could also be a reminder to Junaid that his abilities alone do not assure a place in team so he cannot slack off and need to word hard. Pakistan has enough wicket taking bowlers aside, it does not bother them much. What's been the point of concern is our batsmen unable to hold onto crease for long and post a big score.
Wahab is sort of like Ashwin, he can occupy the crease and score a few run. So this might have also helped his case. Wahab is a good bowler nonetheless. When I said his average is something when you look at our batsmen averages, I meant figuratively,

As for our batsmen, they generally sucks big time. It's not all selector's fault. When you look at our domestic matches, the likes of Shoib Malik, Kamran are the cream of their respective teams.

My point of discussing Variations was to counter your claim of him bowling just fast. Effective or not, he does have those.

why you want us to score at 1.2 RPO during middle overs .

Yeah, some of my friends quote these stats. (y)
It almost feels like Misbah has no captaincy 'talents', he uses an orthodox technique in his captaincy. He doesn't change much according to the situation. :/

The atmosphere sure is electric. The organized chants sound beautiful. :D

You are sadly mistaken; Australia lost to England in the second test of 2009 Ashes series by 115 runs where Andrew Flintoff won the man of the match trophy.

How on earth could somebody forget such a memorable match?!

If they are thinking of bringing back Haris Sohail If my memory serves me right he is that guy who couldn't play on the off side and was trying to eveything out of the park on the leg if he is coming back he better have worked on his technique becuase he played like a tail end slogger the first time.

Yeah, saw him miserably fil in the Champions League qualifiers as well. Asad Shafique seems atleast 5 times technically more sound and talented than the likes of Haris Sohail. It's a pity Asad has been unable to consistently produce substantial knocks so far.

You know, this is the second time you argued on something that wasn't there or said. Wahab is the better bowler, he's selected on his batting alone, I never said. You made that up.

You mentioned that
Plus Wahab is a good all rounder and It is the batting department in which Pak is struggling a lot, he seems the obvious choice.
A bowling average of 60 this year can't justify his inclusion in the team as a bowler. You argued about his batting strength which I then countered in an earlier post. Am I still misunderstanding you?

Perhaps you are not getting me well or may be I wasn't clear enough (?) so I'll try once more to put my thoughts up here again. It's apparent that Junaid is the best choice out of the two, yet Wahab was selected in the playing squad. You confirmed it was due to rotation policy. Which again begs the question, why are we playing a mediocre bowler in the side just because he can bat a bit? Wahab is occupying an all rounder's slot in the lineup. And he isn't doing a satisfactory job in either department.

As for our batsmen, they generally sucks big time. It's not all selector's fault. When you look at our domestic matches, the likes of Shoib Malik, Kamran are the cream of their respective teams.
I agree. We can't fault them for picking the players based on their performance in a domestic season. The problem arises when they keep going back to these tried and tested failures time and again. Team selection isn't a black and white affair. Their performances in the domestic arena mean zilch and our selector's can't get this fact through the thick head of theirs.

My point of discussing Variations was to counter your claim of him bowling just fast. Effective or not, he does have those.
Ok he can bowl the slower ball. What other variations does he possess?

England make only one change, Bresnan in for Finn. Dunno why they're going with Bresnan.
Khawaja replaces Cowan and Starc makes way for Ryan Harris. I would've made the same changes. Good stuff! (y)

England win the toss and bat first.

And Pietersen gone as well! Lovely bowling by the Aussies!

I agree. Most of the Tests in the Subcontinent/Asia are snooze fests with the home team amassing totals in excess of 400-500. Test Cricket is a sight to behold when curators make sporting wickets.

Stay partnership between Bell and Trott. Australia appear to have lost steam after the initial break throughs.

Conditions are ideal for batting. Aussies must do something special to restrict England to below 200

Lolololo.. Imagine him and misbah both at the crease, then 80 runs would seem like a par score in a ODI regardless of them playing until the end.
Yes, I had this is in mind. No team could bother getting any of them out. :umad:

lol. Nintendo games are literally for kids. But to burst some bubbles, I'd like to point out that there are numerous Nintendo emulators available for PC, including multiple Switch emulators. Game compatibility is also pretty good, with overrated games like " Super Mario Odyssey ", "Breath of the WIld" & "Xenoblade Chronicles 2" all being playable. Sour grapes are hard to swallow, i know... :sneaky:

These misconceptions are downright hilarious. The best console games are made by Nintendo, and you get nothing from them on PC. And I laughed so hard at "better online experience". Literally the worst place to play any multiplayer game is PC. Cheater/hacker heaven of a platform

PC gaming is literally at the peak of elitism right now. Literally all the best games from all the other platforms ends up on PC with better graphics/performance. The traditional PC advantages are also present (better performance/graphics on multi-platform games), better online experience, better game stores, best older games compatibility, emulator support, best mod support, best trainer support, and the list is endless. The console kids can point out at specific individual games & be like "but mah game is nawt availabul on yer platzformm", an i say " we really don't care". Nobody cares about a missing dish when you're at the buffet & can enjoy all the best dishes. :sneaky:
