I'll add more to the OP later for now...

I was just met with a new update when I signed in. Most of these updates seem to be right out of another similar digital distribution software *Cough* Steam *Cough*

Let's have a looksie

  • Added functionality to change your password from the settings menu.
  • Introducing Cloud Storage Beta - sync your saved games with the cloud, so you can continue playing from any computer.
  • Added in-game commerce functionality.
  • Added functionality to import friends from select EA games.
  • Improved search functionality so your friends can find you by real name, if you add it to your profile.
  • Added functionality to access customer support from Origin In Game.
  • Added feature to repair game installs.
  • Introducing Free Games - play PC demos to casual games from the Free Games page in the Origin store.

They need a backup system asap. So you can just make a backup of your game and install on another system with the same account. (YES, LIKE STEAM)

And of course, they need work on their download system aswell, which always seems to download more then the file size and never completes. -.-

I agree, They do not have a proper backup.

I had to copy my BF3 beta from laptop to desktop so I just installed origin on my desktop singed in with the account and started download then I paused the download and closed Origin and copied all of BF3 files from my laptop to desktop. When I resumed download it was at 98% and downloaded like 20Mb and installed the game on Desktop.

The new update supposedly fixes that issue.

In other news

[h=1]Origin surpasses 5 million daily users[/h]

EA's downloadable storefront Origin has seen steady adoption numbers since its launch in June, and the publisher announced the service topped 4 million users in September. Speaking with Digital Life this week, EA COO Peter Moore delivered another update on the service's numbers, saying that just four-and-a-half months after release, Origin has surpassed 5 million daily users.

Origin is likely to receive another registration boost this December with the release of BioWare's Star Wars: The Old Republic. EA's downloadable service is the exclusive digital distributor for the sci-fi massively multiplayer online game.

I'm guessing the latter. The BF3 beta raked in the crowds, they're not just going to let that opportunity pass.

Wrong person to make the Origin OT.

Also, why isn't this stickied? Have the mods of this section sold out to Valve or something? :p

Anyways, upcoming Origin titles:

- Syndicate (Feb 24, 2012)
- Mass Effect 3 (March 9, 2012)
- FIFA Street (March 16, 2012)

STEAM FTW.
Here's an example of how Origin is superior to Steam:

One fine day, my phone line died. I thought to myself, "Oh, I guess I can still play my legit owned games on both Origin/Steam." This is out things turned out:

And before Necro comes in with his Mac theory, no one does hardcore gaming on Apple machines. :p

Heck, even Steam acknowledges this, so yeah.

Unfortunately it was made a long time before you even installed Origin on your system :p
lol I did participate in the MP beta :p

One fine day, everything was working perfectly. I though I'll play my legit owned Battlefield 3 for a while before going to sleep. But Origin was aware that I'll have a busy day the next morning and didn't want me to get tired by playing games. Therefore it kept giving me an unknown error wanting me to restart Origin. I searched for solution of this problem but EA help also knew what was good for me and the solution mentioned on their site was to re-install Origin after manually removing it from the PC by deleting files and editing windows registry (which I didn't want to do at that time), while all that was required was to enter my password again (which I found out from a dude who obviously did not care about my health and career as much as EA help and Origin)

Here's another great thing about Origin. I can't even remove the goddamn BF3 beta sign from my games. It doesn't even have any data on the HD and yet it remains.

Origin is wondrous, indeed.

I'll only come here to remind you to lodge a complaint against Windows or something. Since it works perfectly on OSX, its obvious this is not a limitation of Steam.

About the Microsoft (and Sony) debate, I feel both have become too greedy and losing their minds over corporate greed. Personally, I will never buy any console next gen and switch to PC gaming where democracy reins.

did you try setting up Google Payments? For UBL you may have to get it enabled for internet transactions, Naya should work without it!

Did y'all see the new Assassin's Creed trailer? They finally made a AC set in Japan & then they put a negro as the male protagonist. Ubisoft is taking cues from Disney, and it isn't gonna end well for them, just like Disney. Go woke, go broke!
