I was initially hugely tempted to 'reflect' my views on the craching out of the Manchester clubs, but I thought I let is slide. Then I read a signature from abby which said rival fans were feeling good as if wife's having an org*sm with another man. Woah, bruv I see your unhappy but no point in going overboard about it.

Tell you what, I've got something to cheer you up. Why don't you make a nice pasta sauce. The ingredients vary I mean most herbs are nice, but you can't beat basel :D

VIVA GUNNERS!

P.S. I'm new here so no hard feelings!

I think in commemoration of this sad day, we start a 'Hug a Manchester Club fan today' compaign here on Pakgamers.

I'll start with the hugs.

To all the fans of the Manchester clubs (united / city).

With all sincerity from an Arsenal fan;

Tsk Tsk :soft pat on the back:

Cup tied I am sure of it. Cuz City and AC both played in CL. But I ain't sure whether Tevez was in the squad of CL named by City. Else he will indeed be cup tied if he was named in the squad for CL matches.
Tevez was on the Bench in the first game against Bayern Munich. That was the game in which he refused to come on as a substitute. So he IS cup tied :D

Cleverley, Anderson, Rafael, Fabio, Hernandez, Berbatov. 6 were first teamers. Out of those, 2 were specialized midfielders, 2 were specialized strikers, 2 were specialized full backs.

In this match, we lacked the two specialized midfielders - Cleverley and Anderson.

Out of the 3 midfielders we played (Giggs, Park, Jones), 2 were wingers and one was a defender.

That is how fucked up our squad is at the moment. How can you expect them to gel properly?

__

Basel parked the bus in front of goal, just like Inter did to Barca 2 years ago (due to which Barca were knocked out of the CL).
We can't do anything to get pass it unless we have the specialized midfielders (Cleverley and Anderson) with the technicality to play through balls. We lacked that and were punished.
Dude, 6 of the United players were playing out of place.

No proper mid fielder.

Basel defense you say?

playing 9 1 0 0 90% of the match.

Reminded me of the Inter where Eto'o was defender and the rest goal keepers. :/
i am sorry , but it was all about tactics , instead of playing giggs and park in midfield we could have used park and young in midfield , young can operate in midfield and my god he can perform better than giggs and park in midfield , we should have played two up front whole game , wellbeck and rooney should have started from the start , as for back , jones , rio ,evra and smalling were good enough to handle basel ,
at wings we shuld have played nani and giggs .
tactics went bad , and it wasnt inter vs barca type defending , they only did that in last 15 mins , we should have scored before that , they basel didnt played for win till 70-75 mins , that was the time they relize that we can win,

and chances go begging rooney missed some glorious opportunities

Yeah. Tevez is cup tied.

___

Come to think of it, I'm not THAT sad that United lost. Yeah, embarrassment and humiliation, but atleast this has popped Evra type people's bubbles who took everything for granted.

Furthermore, it has given United to concentrate on less BS, because if not now, then they were getting out in the round of 16 any freaking way. I hope Basel get an easy(ier) team, though.

And, it has further highlighted the need of quality and depth in the midfield. One defender, two midfielders needed. Bare minimum. I'd be happy if one quality midfielder comes in Jan and the next set in Jun. But United need a midfielder real real real bad if they want to even think about the FA Cup, and the EPL. I wont be surprised if they are knocked out of the Europa League.

Best of luck playing with the likes of Bayen, Barca, Real, Inter, AC in the quarters ;)

This years CL is going to be damn fun.

I expect Barca to be out by the semi's and one London side progressing to the semi's.

RMA vs Bayern would be an effin awesome final.

I expect Bayern to bag the CL this year, though.

You actually expect Barca to not make the final? Or are you just hoping that will be the case? For the neutral, Barca vs. Madrid is the best final possible. It should be epic, and being a one-off game, Madrid will have an equal shot at winning it. I just hope the two sides aren't drawn in the same half of the knockout phase, and thus, avoid each other until the final.

Here is a funny comment I read on the BBC blog.

"Congratulations to both Utd. & City. For having made it to the Europa league at the expense of Basel & Napoli respectively ;)"

Wow. I lost my mind when posting the previous comment.

No way on earth is the London side getting to the finals.

Bayern/Madrid vs Barca.

But Barca wont nick it this year. Can bet on it.

I agree no doubt Arsenal have 'trophy less hatricks', 2 trophy less hatricks actually and that too back to back.

But I'm one of those Arsenal fans who don't necessarily see a trophy as an achievement. I think the style of football with which the team plays, is much more satisfying than a trophy. Seriously, I don't mind that Arsenal don't win a trophy as long as they manage to beat the best with their true style of football. But that's just me and I know a lot of people don't have this viewpoint.

Besides, trophies are there every season and it's only a matter of time before Arsenal win one. But the branding of slick football to which Arsenal are generally associated and sometimes even compared with the likes of Barca, is more important for me as a Gunner than a trophy.

Haha. :hug back:

And to you as well, best of luck in the the Europa League.

On a more serious note, I think Barcelona would again dominate this year's CL. With the way that Barca 'B' (dubbed 'Baby Barca' in the Spanish media) thrashed a relatively average European side BATE Borisov to 4-0, it speaks volumes. I mean Arsenal B against Olympiacos were apathetic. It's very important for a team to display high aspirations and on paper I think Barca, by topping their Group H including a win of 4-0 by baby barca, appear to be on the course of a yet another successful CL campaign. Though chances for Arsenal and Chelsea are really slim to be honest.

Breaking news!

Wayne Rooney Euro 2012 ban reduced to two matches

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/16064924.stm

Very disappointing. Especially in terms of severity when compared to the Arshavin case which resulted in a three match ban. At least he had the good grace to accept his punishment, and not complain. Is consistency by the governing body too much to ask?

Coincidental fact much ?

All three United group stage exits during Sir Alex Fergusons reign so far have come on 7th of December. All three on Wednesdays. All three after a key player retired or quit (i.e Bryan Robson, Roy Keane, Paul Scholes)

Another one, After United had a group stage exit in 1994, they went on to win the CL 5 years later. When United were again humiliated at the group stages in 2005, they went on the win the CL 3 years later. According to the trend, the CL is United's next year. (Though I don't see them winning till atleast 7 more years :p )
