Assalamualiakum,
I was planning to upgrade to i5 until i saw "Xeon e3 1231 v3" which has same cores as i5 but double threads infact more threads than i7 and little bit more expensive than i5, . I dont have much knowlege about xeon processors and i to do gaming only. Will my motherboard support it and if yes is it good for gaming?

here is link for this bad boy

warm regards,
as the i5 already has 4 cores, hyper-threading wont really help in gaming. Before games wouldnt utilize more than 2 cores, now more games can utilize 4, but beyond that more isnt needed. If you do video rendering/encoding, yes definitely. But just for gaming, your 4 core i5 cpu will do just fine.

Also the xeon chips dont come with onboard graphics. So in a worse case scenario where your gpu dies, at least you have onboard to run the system (something to consider).
