Dear Pg'ers,
I'm specific to those who own an xbox one setup, recently there has been a preview program announced from Microsoft. I would like to know is Xbox One media player able to play large mkv's?

I believe there are many users out there, who have Xbox one and have tried watching mkv's on their xbox. Please could anyone tell whats the max mkv video file size they have played on their console, like in 720p or 1080p.

Dude I just linked you to the release notes of today's update above but you didn't bother reading it. Below is the part specific to your requirement from the post above.

  • Media Player DLNA and MKV support – The latest version of the Media Player app will now have support for DLNA streaming. With this update, you will be able to easily access and play music, watch photo slideshows or movies stored on home media servers and devices that support the DLNA server protocols. Additionally, you will now be able to playback MKV files stored on a USB device or a device on your home network that supports DLNA streaming.

They haven't mentioned a file limit so it's safe to assume that there's no limit.

Brother, I got your point. I did check that link, but i'm really curious bout the limit Microsoft is giving.

Media players don't have any file size related limits. If ur comparing this to 360 then it wasn't player related limit, It was the file system. 360 could only work with FAT32 file system hence movies greater than 4GB were not playable. Same is not true for XBO which can work with any file system now.

If this is true and I can play movies over 4gig, then Lord I'm in Heaven.
Microsoft you have done it.

well in my experience all mkv files play other than those with dts audio

also both fat32 and ntfs formatted Hdds are supported which is awesome no file size limit

also you can stream all your media via Plex onto the XB1 this update made the XB1 a Media server Powerhouse

    So i just found out that f***ing s***bag Microsoft shut down Arkane Studio (makers of the brilliant Dishonored series) and Tango Gameworks (makers of the iconic The Evil Within series), among some other studios.     Started Dead Island 2, and i find it pretty lame. The story is shit. The characters are either cringe or bland (all 6 of them), The gameplay isn't fun. Even the goddamn zombies don't behave like proper zombies. They're all fast & intelligent unlike how zombies are supposed to be like. Any fan of "zombie" genre cannot possibly like this shitfest of a game. Dying Light 2 was million times better than this shit.

    tbh gaming industry as a whole is failing much like tech industry. They have buckled down too much to Corporate suites then relying on passionate and innovative people. A corporate only believes in financial growth and shareholders.
