Immigration is pretty easy for Australia these days. The job market can be slow and the living expenses are really high so survival without a job is tough. If you're single then there are a few odd jobs you can do, cash jobs mean no tax and better government money so it's doable. Being single will allow you to easily share accommodation which is the biggest expense. But eventually you'll get a job.
If you have immigration and somehow you manage out your 4-5 years, you'll get the citizenship, which means you're free to travel to a LOT of countries without VISA. Kinda opens up the horizon.
And if you come to Melbourne particularly, you might fall in love. They don't call it the most live-able city in the world for nothing. It's beautiful and I'm in love with this place already. Been here since last June. Luckily I got a job within a month. The average time is 3 months, some have taken an year even to get a proper career based job (got through the year driving cabs). Others have got jobs that pay twice what I get within a couple of weeks. I guess it's your luck.
The thing is, even the poorest and lowest living standard is extremely good and there's not a huge gap between lower and upper middle class. Unlike the middle east, people aren't brand conscious here and capitalism isn't exactly rampant (like Dubai). Government takes care of your medical expenses, they give you tax back if you have family and kids, there's childcare payments and rent assistance etc. I says it's worth a shot to try Australia on skilled immigration.
