Hey guys,

I'm one of the rare few guys who actually uses and needs the stylus a lot (or I could carry around a pad and pen all the time). I've been on the note 4 for a while, skipped the note 5, and the note 8 was just too expensive when it came out. Now that the note 9 is out, the note 8 seems to be dropping in price and Im considering purchasing it.

I live in Islamabad. I've been checking for the note 8's price online, and theres some wide variation, anywhere from 64K to 89K. I have no idea what to make of this. Any idea what the real price is, with and without warranty, is it safe to purchase it without warranty etc? And whats a good, reliable shop to buy the note 8 in Islamabad, one that'll honor the warranty and not try to pass off a second hand phone as new etc? I'm pretty much a novice when it comes to phones!

Any and all advice is wellcome!

They're authorized to sell Samsung phones with warranty, but they have without warranty models for slightly cheaper as well. I pre-ordered my S9+ from them, no issues at all.

If you're getting the warranty model, it'll have a PTA sticker on the bottom of the box and a silver hologram type sticker with the Pakistani flag on the front of the box on the top right corner. This one will be the most expensive since it has official GreenTech warranty. If anything happens, the GreenTech customer care center is literally a 30 second walk from Phone City. It's in the same building, on the second floor.

If you want non warranty, they'll sell it considerably cheaper, you might even be able to negotiate a bit now that the Note 9 is out, but ONLY buy it if it's a UAE import. I wouldn't trust a phone from anywhere else, the ones from UK or Europe are usually repacked.

The UAE imports have this white square sticker on the front of the box, on the top right, and it'll say 'SAMSUNG GULF WARRANTY'.
Furthermore, on the bottom of the box, under the IMEI and all that, it'll say the product code:
SM-N950FZKDXSG, the letters after SM-N950F may be different depending on the colour of the device, 'ZKD' is for the midnight black one, but all UAE imports will end in 'XSG' which is the product code for that region.
Another way to check is that the specs on the back of the box will be written in English AND Arabic.

If they have a UAE one, get that. No warranty, but it'll most likely be brand new, and a lot cheaper than the official warranty model. Pop in your SIM card immediately though to save yourself from any of that PTA DIRBS crap.

Thanks a lot, very informative!

Can I ask, just in case something goes wrong with the UAE phone, will the shop be willing to repair it (I'll be paying obviously). And how safe is it to purchase a non warranty phone? I got my note 3 from homeshopping a long time ago without warranty, and never had any issues at all. In fact, its still running flawlessly.

Well I called them and they said they carry only the warranty version for Rs.90,000. Any shop you can recommend for a non warranty version?

Honestly I'd only be worried about buying a non warranty phone if it was known to have common manufacturing defects. Nothing of the sort with the Note 8, so no need to worry.

As far as repairs go, I'm not sure how skilled the repairmen in Pakistan are when it comes to repairing phones like the S8/Note 8/S9, since the display is attached to the frame, and the disassembly process is somewhat complicated, wouldn't want them to suddenly break something fragile like a ribbon cable or those really tiny connectors.

Hopefully you won't need any repairs anyway, unless of course it's accidental damage, which can be prevented with a case and screen protector.

I guess most of the other shops nearby would have it. Lots of Samsung only shops around that area, just look out for the things I mentioned about the Gulf imported ones and you should be fine. Don't pay more than 80k for a non warranty one.

EDIT: Look at this thread, it's very old and the phone is obviously not for sale, but look at the pictures, that's exactly the box of a Gulf imported Note 8, note the sticker on the front and Arabic text on the back.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Maple Gold!
