What's Reasonable Price for X360 Slim Red Ring Fix?

Hi guys,

I bought a brand new Xbox 360 Slim (Jtag - Black) - back in August 2013. Since I'm more busy in job & stuff, so I hardly played it for TOTAL 50 Hours or so off & on in last 11 months. (Like Once a month for a 2-3 hours, very carefully without any heating issue).

But last month when I plugged it, it gave me Red Ring of Death. (I remember last time I played it, I unplugged & packed it perfectly fine).

Anyways, I took it to a local shop in defence (I think the shop name is GB Games - person name is Vicky).

The guy kept it for over 2 weeks & kept saying they're trying to figure out the issue. Then one day he said, "Motherboard is FINE" since they used another WORKING Motherboard with it & he said it didn't worked either, so may be something else is wrong. But yesterday he returned the console & said "MAY BE" its motherboard issue or something.

I'm confused, may be they were incompetent to find out the issue. Can you suggest a better service person/shop who can try to fix my xbox please?

I would like to add here, what I learned from my experience. When I bought this xbox 360 slim, I actually had planned to buy a PS3 Slim 320GB. I personally prefer Sony product (PS3) over xbox, considering its better hardware. I never liked xbox bcoz I've heard a lot of red ring of death stories. But Vicky @ GB Games convinced me, "Don't worry sir, Xbox 360 slim is a great console, there is no more red ring of death any more in this slim version any more". etc. etc. And this is where I ended up today (I got RROD).

So what I'm trying to say is, NEVER LISTEN TO THE CHEESY WORDS OF THE SHOP KEEPER. Always follow your instinct. Do what YOU feel is right.

Problem Note: The center dot on my xbox 360 slim was blinking red.

I've got it checked on a shop on defence road (Lahore), GB Games. The guy says they did a detailed checking for 3 weeks & found the problem.
He says it will take Rs. 10,000 to fix the red ring of death issue. and the issue will be resolved permanently & will not happen again even if we play it for 20 hours non-stop. I personally believe its way too much expensive. But I want expert opinions from you guys.

Please tell me what is the estimated Minimum - Maximum repair cost of this (Red Ring/Blinking Red) issue.

I really need it fixed and I'll really appreciate the helpful advice from you guys.

before we gave the console to him, we checked their on another power supply & we got the same issue, so its not power supply issue.

Are you saying they may pull out our working parts & add faulty parts? If so, how can I check or verify this when I'll take it back from him?

Just sent my xbox360 slim to Ishtiaq (@xboyhot). He told us that Mod Chip is missing. So, Vicky (@ JB Games Defence Road) has pulled the original mod chip from my console. Such a miserable person, can't resist bayimaani even in the Holy Month of Ramadhan.

I'm feeling so annoyed right now! I'll talk to vicky & see if returns my Chip.

u can try repairing it but only from an authentic place with collaboration and advice of [MENTION=2128]faizy[/MENTION] and [MENTION=2126]Jshak[/MENTION]. -both are experienced and have great knowledge in the field of consoles.

if your xbox gets repaired within 5k with a guarantee of resolving the issue permanently then go for it.

as far as selling is concerned.. i am afraid a bricked console (even slim) would probably not sell for a decent price tag.

any way, here is a better advice for the long run

Thanks Bro. I spoke to him. At first he was not accepting, he said there are no Mod Chips in Xbox 360, but then he called his lab guy & told him to bring the Mod Chip back to his shop. He asked me to collect tonight. "FOUND GUILTY".

But even if he returns my Chip, I think I'll still take some pics, bcoz what he did was on purpose. That Chip could cost me an extra Rs. 2500.

Not yet Bro, I sent it to Ishtiaq @xboyhot today. I'm waiting for Ishtiaq's response. He will check in details & will tell me solution after 1-2 days. Ishtiaq seems to be very expert & nice person. I just hope he can fix my console.

Also, Vicky (at JB Games) returned me a wrong Chip, which clearly appears to be an out-dated chip for its shape. But since I'm not an expert, so I just took it & will show it to Ishtiaq to see if its the right Chip for my Jtag/RGH version.

After what Vicky did to me, I'll definitely take his Shop Pics & post here on PG with his shop name, so other innocent people like me will stay away from him.

Any chance you can link me to the picture of the real Mod Chip of a JTag/RGH version?
