Most of us when we buy a USED mobile, we probably don't remember ALL things what to check for. I have been scammed a few times and I used to forget what to check. This Checklist might help you so that you don't get deceived by a Dishonest Seller.
Check-List:
1) Condition: If its USED, then always look at corner of phones with Eagle Eyes as they are the most susceptible area when Dropped. Any hard scratches on corner will prove it has been dropped. with one eye Check for hairline cracks by pressing slightly harder on body. A loose body indicates a changed casing or very old mobile.
Open the back cover and see if there are visible screws. If screws are present then check that they didn't loose their virginity. check for company seal stickers. If seals are removed, its probably opened or repaired set.
2) Display: Open a white page or black page and First increase the brightness to check if its increasing the brightness or not. Then Lower the brightness and then see if colors are equally distributed. LED Pixels have life and some may fade eventually with 2-3 years use. They often don't fade equally. If there is fading, it may prove to be used for very long if seller claims its rarely used.
3) Sound: Dial a number to other mobile and see if voice is clear and the listener receives a clear voice too. Turn on Loudspeaker. Turn on a Video or Audio and maximize volume. Any burst sound will show a damaged speaker.
4) Bluetooth, Wifi, Network Signal: Turn on Bluetooth and search for other device, if it locates, its OK.
Same should be done with Wifi. Let Wifi search for Signals. If there is low signal, confirm; as sometimes the WiFi antenna might have split apart due to dropping etc and you might get very low signals.
Go Offline mode and then online again to see if its locating network signal or not.
5) Charging: Connect to Charger, see if its charging fine and make sure the pin goes tightly in and wont disconnect of you move your mobile.
6) Camera and Flash: take pictures and review it. Flash should be working fine. Must not forget to check LED flash light while taking pics
7) Original Battery: Remember to know difference between Original batteries and duplicate ones. No battery can match Original that comes with the set.
8) Check Hard buttons: Make sure you dial All numbers and it clicks comfortably and correct. Volume slider, power button etc.
9) Memory card and Card Slot: If it has a slot for memory card. take it out and then Put it back in to see if its getting inside easily or not and make sure its detected by phones again.
10) Handsfree: Put it in your mobile to see if the handsfree are working. If the seller says its Handsfree problem then check another pair of Handsfree with it. but don't forget to check it.
11) IMEI #: Most mobiles have IMEI number written on back of it. behind the battery. Match it with the phones IMEI Number. If its not the same, then the body of set has been changed or the Motherboard is changed.
12) Life Timer: Every mobile has its own life timer code. Check for that life timer. It might give you an idea of the set used. Sometimes its flashed to zero. An Old set with zero or very less timer may give a hint that it was previously repaired.
13) The Last and Important of All: If you don't really know the guy or he is a stranger, Always inform your family before leaving home that you are going to a specific place to buy a mobile from a person. Give that person's mobile number to one of your family member. Try not to go alone.
For Full Safety, If seller has no Original Receipt or Box (with matching IMEI) Please take written from the Seller with Sign or Thumb print that He sold you the mobile on this date mentioning IMEI number. Incase the mobile was a stolen one, you will be on safe side.
Any Other important thing if I missed in Checklist , Please let me know, I will add to it.
