Doesn't look like they're roaming on each other's network. In Blue Area, I managed to connect to Warid on my Mobilink SIM (but haven't been able to do so anywhere else).

This is how roaming appears:

I should have tested out the signal strength comparison and performed a few more tests, but alas, I didn't.

I really don't know how they've configured the networks. What I think is happening is that Mobilink's signals are different from Warid's, and the traceroute showsthat I'm not going through Warid's network at all. However, as I'm not in their network planning department (nor do I work for a telco or a telco vendor), I don't know how they're doing it.

But I was connected to 410 01 and 410 07, both being mutually exclusive. And that too, in Blue Area only.

As for speed tests: I'm touching 2MB/s in places (depending on the obstructions in place). In Gulrez, it varies between 5-9Mbps near my house, but it's higher in the market (my house is in an area with construction and shrubs, and Zong performed alright-ish here as well).

I'm not TOO bothered about the speed per se as far as 4g is concerned - I'm more concerned about the latencies. And thus far, latencies on Mobilink 4g are similar to Zong's (I.e. good). Speeds may improve eventually (Zong didn't start off with 40Mbps speeds from day one - we need to remember that they, too, ramped up their network in stages, so to expect the same thing from Mobilink (or ANY operator starting up) is a little unfair).

To expect Zong-like speeds from Warid is, however, fair. But Zong doesn't perform well in all areas, so it's not that Messiah from the heavens that does everything perfectly.

Also, for what it's worth, I did a trace route on Mobilink to 8.8.8.8. Here you go (notice the routing and how they don't seem to be using TW1):

EDIT: I'm very confused right now. Don't know who's lying and who isn't.

Live Chat and 3111 and the CSR who issued my SIM when switching me to Postpaid said that ALL new SIMs being issued are LTE. The CSR who handed me my new SIM when I switched to postpaid said it's an LTE SIM.

I just called 111 who now tell me that my SIM is not LTE and that I have to go to the office to get an LTE Enabled SIM for 100 rs.

Whaaaat?

Luckily enough, a family member doesn't have an LTE SIM yet either, so will have to wait till the weekend when he's free from the office and I'm free from school to go and get yet ANOTHER SIM card.

When I went last time to get my dad's number converted to postpaid, the agent told me all SIMs being issued are 4G SIMs.

But guess that's not quite the case.

I ported from Pindi, got a SIM from there. Went to Islamabad after being ported, converted to postpaid, got another sim. A week later, I went to convert my dad's number - it was on this visit when I was told all SIMs being issued are 4G compatible.

Today, I tried sending an SMS to 3111, who confirmed that 4g has been enabled. The helpline 111 told me my SIM and my number are both 4G enabled. I lodged a complaint, no heed. I then went to their service center in the evening, told them that I'd like a 4G sim since the service has been activated but I'm not getting 4G signals. They scuffled around, found a 4g sim, charged me Rs. 100, and after the new sim was activated, the guy enabled the 4g toggle (since my number had 4G provisioned, but the SIM did not, and hence, the reissuance).

I suspected I had a 3G sim, and 111 insisted I had a 4G sim. When I told the guy at the counter, he said that there must have been some miscommunication as my SIM was not 4G enabled (it showed on his screen my sim wasn't 4g provisioned).

Another (major) reason I suspected this was the case was because when I forced my phone to 4g, it wouldn't connect to any Mobilink nor Warid tower (it would connect to a Zong tower instead, and show the limited service message).

So - go to their center, tell them you have the confirmation 4g is enabled, and that they should issue you the 4g sim. It won't take more than 5 minutes.

And when you guys hop onto the bandwagon, you guys (especially [MENTION=36166]iNCEPTiON[/MENTION] and his unlimited BIS) can do the speed tests since I have limited bandwidth... [emoji14]

Yes, this is what I've been trying to say as well [MENTION=136639]zafarabbasrizvi[/MENTION]

Mobilink and Warid are DIFFERENT right now, not the same backhaul, and sometimes the signals may come from a Warid tower on a Mobilink number and vice versa, but the point is, Mobilink has it's own 4G network under it's own name, 410-01, and Warid has it's own, 410-07.

So when you use Mobilink 4G, you technically can't consider it Warid 4G always, as the IP being assigned to you is owned by Mobilink, the core network is Mobilink, the tower you're connected to might also be Mobilink's, but they're just using Warid's 4G license to re-purpose some of their towers as 4G as well. Roaming is enabled for both networks.

For example in an area where Warid 4G is weak or non-existent, and Mobilink has an upgraded 4G tower, your Warid number will hop on to that, with no issues at all. It may or may not show 'Roaming' on your phone, but it will still work and piggyback off Mobilinks network.

Same goes for Mobilink, if they're in an area where there are no upgraded Mobilink 4G towers, they'll just use a Warid 4G tower. As for IP addressing, and whose network the data will be routed through, I can only say so when I get my damn working LTE SIM.

I too have limited bandwidth, LOL, but I will rape their network with speed tests once I get the SIM.

Very disappointed with this trip to the office though, will post pictures of the old SIM that I had, and the new one I just got that is supposed to be 4G, but apparently isn't. Let me know if it looks the same as the one you just got issued.

And I am also saying same since 2 months that Mobilink have only one option except integration that to install 4G equipments on its own cell sites. This will counter congestion and provide better 4G speed as well.

But here in Faisalabad case is seems to be different. I just put my phone on LTE mode and run a network search. It was connected to Mobilink 4G and Warid 4 was also there with (forbidden) tag. When i tried to connect warid i does connected to Warid and start showing R sign which means roaming.

Than I changed phone settings to 3G/2G to check whether connects to Mobilink 3G on Warid or not, but it doesn't

This means Mobilink 4G is running on Warid roaming here untill know. Mobilink might have enabled some of its cell sites in Islamabad as 4G but so is not the case here.
But again I really hope that Mobilink made its own 4G network by enabling its own 4G cell sites.

If some one here with active Mobilink 4G and samsung device can possibly check which spectrum Mobilink is using for LTE from service menu. Whether Mobilink is using same frequency alloted to Warid or Mobilink refarmed some of its own?

I just wanted to see if there is any difference in chips. Because old chips were different.
But i have sim of same design. May be that will work on 4g.
For logo thing. There is nothing special in that. Mobilink just devided into 2 sub brands. Old mobilink users are now jazz user. 2nd sub brand name is warid.
They both will share everything, but their tarrifs will be same as old.

4G sims are the ones with JAZZ Logo which [MENTION=42544]murtaza12[/MENTION] posted in his second picture. THe old sims with mobilink are not 4G sims.

Also, I didnt call or do anything I just put in my sim and 4G was already on. Not getting anything above 7-8 mbps but since yesterday signals have been going up and down at my end.

Is anyone from Karachi here using mobilink 4G??
