zafarabbasrizvi, did they answer why 2G calls are a crapshoot?

What are the drawbacks of porting my number from one carrier to another? Also what is the procedure and how many days does it take usually.

Have been thinking to port my number from telenor to jazz.

The only drawback that comes to mind is that some messages aren't delivered. Bank texts, and those security codes that Gmail, Facebook, etc will send to reset your password.
Although this doesn't happen to everyone.
shaheerk can give his experience as he has ported to different networks.

If you're on prepaid, porting usually just takes 24 hours.

For postpaid it might take a little longer.

Postpaid can take anywhere between 3 days and 10ish... You need to make sure your bill is paid (and some excess is also paid) for postpaid porting to go through. And one fine day, it'll happen.

If you're on postpaid, convert to prepaid, and it'll happen in 24 hours or so. Much faster than waiting a week.

As for the drawbacks: one is you don't always get messages from the short codes/SMS services within Pakistan - as a workaround, these companies usually say "send an SMS to xyz number and you should begin to get messages".

The second issue is that if, for whatever reason, you don't like your current network, then you can't port back before 60 days.

I just moved onto Telenor. I get calls dropped to 2G with Telenor as well (I thought I wouldn't), and it's no different - except one operator may not fall back in an area, and another would. However, they allow dual transfer mode on 3G. While I get signals at home for making calls, signals at home also vanish randomly and I have to toggle airplane mode as well.

In short - you most likely won't be satisfied with any operator.

Oh, and as for Telenor - where they have carrier aggregation, speeds are plenty fast - except when carrier aggregation doesn't kick in, or the signals are just awful (quality, not quantity). Not much you can do about that (as I am). I plan to move back to Mobilink despite the issues (because Telenor, too, has issues).

We may see further consolidation between the cellcos if this license renewal and low ARPU business keeps going on. My money is on Ufone getting acquired by one of the others. Instead of 4 operators we will be left with just 3. The reduced competition will hurt consumers but is to be expected in the hostile environment they are operating in.

No Jazz 4G right now in Faisalabad. Even forcing to 4G only mode is not getting 4G on mobile.
And No sim data is working on Jazz either on 3G or 2G since 4G is already not available. Don't know whats happening.

And after latest update my Samsung galaxy A50 has got a VoLTE option in connection settings. I think one of the operators in Pakistan have got A50 on their VoLTE list.

VoLTE toggle should only appear if you are on the operator that has VoLTE.

Which SIMs are you using in your A50?

Then Jazz must be testing it or something.

Convenient how this happens one day after I leave :/
Its surely is Jazz.

Settings shows "VoLTE Calls Sim 1" and I have Jazz sim in slot 1 and Ufone sim in Slot 2.

Spoiler: show

I have tried inserting Jazz sim in slot 2 and Ufone sim in slot 1 and settings changed to "VoLTE calls Sim 2".

Spoiler: show

Which clearly means my Galaxy A50 is now Jazz VoLTE enabled after receiving update on 16th September. But calls are still going through 3G, which means Jazz yet to enable VoLTE at their Network.

I also tried inserting Telenor 4G sim and VoLTE setting did not show up.

This is great news. Keep us posted if you see the VoLTE icon in the status bar and take a screenshot of service mode while you're in a call.

Also do check SIM status in settings to see what it shows for IMS status.

This is not VoLTE. This is option to use internet during VoLTE call.

Can you pls share the csc folder ? Just in case we know for sure that A50 has got the volte settings for jazz.

Must be in root\system\csc\pak

Copy that pak folder, total commander and xplore should be able to copy on unrooted phones too..

Zip that folder and share it here. Open and inspect it yourself for details and delete imei or other information it may contain (as far i know it doesn't). Thanks
