Sorry I haven't followed this thread in a while , but I wanted to ask a question how come in my area in the middle of Islamabad zong gives 4 to 5 mbps and jazz is more than 35+mbps , I tried a few different locations and still zong was atleast 3 times slower what am I missing here did jazz upgraded its network?
Jazz did the first upgrade back in late 2017, and since then they have silently been increasing capacity more and more but only in Islamabad.
There is 4G+ in most parts of Islamabad and it works quite well and it will have an edge over Zong.

Also can u change networks if ur on a postpaid number or do u have to convert it to prepaid first then switch to the other network
You can switch postpaid ones as well, but the process takes a little longer and you have to absolutely make sure that all your outstanding dues are paid with your current network before applying to port out to another network.
shaheerk has converted a postpaid number in the past if I remember correctly so he can give his own personal experience.

Postpaid porting: all you need to do is pay over and above your bill (e.g. if your current bill is, say, 450 rupees, pay around 500 instead). The excess will be returned to you with the security deposit after other due payments.

Prepaid conversion occurs in 24 hours. Postpaid takes around 3 to 4 working days.

My security deposit is 2k and I usually pay a thousand rupees when it reaches the end so let's say I'm near 2k of the security deposit do I have to pay the entire 2k ? If so how will zong refund my security deposit if I change my network

On-net minutes and data speeds.

Not sure how they refund, so you'll have to ask them.

As for how much you pay - you pay over and above your bill.

zafarabbasrizvi What's the point if only one or two sites in the whole country massive MIMO enabled?

They are only good at making stupid pointless press releases, they already mentioned massive MIMO a few months before as well. They had to post about it again just to stay relevant.

Only difference is that previously it was Band 3 only, now it's B3+B1 CA. They should only post press releases when this fancy new tech is available in multiple cities.

As for VoLTE, I don't know what hurdles there are that are only being faced by local telcos which they can't overcome even after 2 years of 'testing'.

Which company doesn't do this? Its more than 2 years since Jazz announced VoLTE testing completion? They release a press 6 months ago about L900 dual band CA, but it is still limited to few areas of Islamabad.

Telenor announced to be 1st 4G+ network. And still we can't even play 360p videos on YouTube by using their 5 MHz 4G. They also released a fu*kin presser in which they claimed to enable VoLTE on their network. But they still don't know which device is capable of it and at which area.

Ufone announced to refarm 900 MHz for their 3G. Still only 5 MHz 3G on 2100 MHz in Faisalabad, Multan, Hyderabad, Sargodha and where not? And ohh yeah, their Customer service center here claim to launch LTE service in Fsd at the start of every month. And at the end of the day they say, it has been delayed with annoying smile. Even they do not have 4G sims yet.

It's a race of the losers. They are only competing to be worst.

Sooner or later we will be getting it, since networks are chocked to death in peak times, and massive mimo is supposed to fix that

Interesting. I think they've been given the unassigned 3.9Mhz to make it a full 20Mhz. Because the Warid 6Mhz is in between another block, and they could use intra-band CA but your phone doesn't say so.

I'll check on my mum's phone in my phase (she has a Samsung) and see what the spectrum is in Phase 8.

Confirmed. 20Mhz in this part of Bahria as well.

No CA.

Must have had some frequency reshuffles.

I don't understand what is meant by different blocks in same spectrum bro ? Isn't 5,20,15 and 20Mhz are blocks and 850,900,1800 and 2100Mhz are frequency spectrums ? Or am I missing some basic knowledge ? Sorry for my noob question.. xD

They're doing some weird shit in this part of Bahria again.

3G/4G signals are extremely weak again and the phone dropped down to 2G multiple times this morning.

Let's use 1800 MHz band as an example.

It consists of frequencies from 1710 - 1785 MHz for uplink, and 1805-1880 MHz for downlink.

Obviously each operator has a specific block in the whole band.

For example, Jazz's block is 1820-1840 MHz and Zong's block is 1845-1865 MHz.
Both are 20 MHz blocks.

But for some reason they want to swap them, so Jazz and Zong will temporarily disable 1800 MHz on some sites, while they shuffle their blocks and then enable them again after the changes have been made.

Obviously this can not be done on all sites at once since that would be time consuming and it would cause nationwide disruption of services.

So they do this in specific areas, very late at night or early in the morning to disturb the least amount of people.

Let's hope something good comes out of whatever is happening.

I'm in Nathia Gali right now - I can confirm 4G works here: -102dBm, and get an average of 20Mbps (bursts go to around 40Mbps). 4G was spotty on the way, and so was 3G (at times, the 3G signal would come but data wouldn't work - I know because I had internet radio on, and it would silence for a bit, then play for a bit, so on and so forth. I know it was streaming over EDGE in between as well).

I think it's time we all made a coverage map of the operators ourselves, since they won't.

Update: 4G works fine. 3G? 0.2Kbps. I'm not kidding. Even when signals are -51dBm.

Telenor's 4G is 1.5Mbps (-91dBm, RSRQ is -12... mobilink's is -105dBm and -8dBm), 3G goes all the way up to 10Mbps (-75dBm max).

Weird. Maybe Telenor has fixed their 3G speeds and need to fix their 4G? I'm trying to find another place where Telenor speeds are <0.5Mbps (because Mobilink has quite a number of places where it does) so I don't feel bad (although I'm sure Mobilink 3G speeds are badly choked here).

And also, data on 3G calls work on Telenor here as well.

Getting this on jazz, where in this peak time zong is not crossing 2 Mbps, pretty good.

Popped in my Zong sim after a really long time. Subscribed their Day time offer bundle. And compared the speed of both while sitting in my lawn. (i am on a sick leave today; so time pass, [emoji28].)

The result is this that Zong is still rulling in Faisalabad and Jazz 4G here is competing with Ufone' 3G. Both sims were getting very similar signals. Jazz was on 15 MHz and Zong was on 20 MHz (No CA)

Jazz 4G

Spoiler: show

Zong 4G

Spoiler: show

shaheerk murtaza12 why Jazz's download frequency is in 1800 range and Zong's in 1500 range? Should not both be in 1800?
