Well I have heard that a student of Bahria University Islamabad is going on a hunger strike for an INDEFINITE PERIOD beacuse he was rusticated on the grounds that he sent revolutionary poems of Faiz ahmed Faiz and Noon meem Shahid to his faculty member. And he wont call off the hunger strike until all his 14 demands are met and fulfilled.

1- Dignified restoration of Arsalan Bilal with apology from university’s management
2- Redress all grievances by reprimanding those responsible for committing atrocities on Bilal
3- Cessation of discrimination on basis of race, caste, creed, religion, affiliation, etc. on campus
4- All serving military officers in university be directed to return to purely military functions
5- All retired military officers in the university be gradually supplanted by qualified civilians
6- Post of Director Campus be occupied by a highly qualified academic
7- Purge the university of pseudo intellectuals
8- Constitute a special autonomous body of academics to ensure checks on faculty members
9- Tighten the plagiarism check policy on faculty members
10- Decision to retain faculty members should hinge on students’ feedback
11- Empower Students’ Affairs department for addressing apprehensions of students
12- Public proceedings of all cases before the discipline committee
13- Abolish dress code imposed in the university
14- Render more need-based scholarships by eliminating fee discounts for children of naval officers

P.S : Atleast someone is bold enough to take charge against the utter educational discrimination in our universities!!!!

Nothings gona happen. Private unis do whatever they want.
I think its not a private university , its a federally chartered public sector university.... Whatever may be the consequences but u gotta give it to his bravery... He is standing against retired generals almost all the admin is from the navy... And I have heard that the media is getting involved too!!!... For me Bahria university is going down soon if demands are not met, and I hope and I wish that Chief justice would take a suo motto notice.

Yeah he surely did a brave thing but the demands he have put up aren't little ones especially the 4th and 5th one.
AFQ bahi u know what, when someone has nothing to lose he/she can do exceptional things, from where I see it Bahria University's image is at stake, not only nationally but internationally as well!!!!!

dude he has clearly mentioned in his struggle that he wont take any legal action!, he would die for it if he had to, u see from where he sees it is not just a matter of his restoration for him it has turned into a bigger struggle.

Abolish dress code imposed in the university
When did Bahria Uni get a dress code?

And trust me, such things are totally useless. I study in Air Univeristy which is close neigbour to Bahria University. The case is same here that it is being controlled by retired Air Force guys. Trust me, management here sucks big time.

It didn't happen to me but i heard it from seniors that there was a time when Uni management increased fee without notifying students. The students got furious and started a protest. The end result was that all the front leaders of protest were thrown out of University. The guys that were thrown out included even 7th semester guys.

Don't get your hopes high. These things never work.

I think Bahria university doesnt allow shalwar kameez and T-shirts, as i already said whatever may be the consequences the guy would leave an impact that will haunt bahria university for years, and the student has strong connections in media

^I don't think so... I daily witness Students going there in full dress pant or what ever dress they desire + got friends from Bahria so i know it very well.

Forget about leaving impact. He may get famous but he is also putting his engg in danger. Just wait and see what happens next. Like i said, no need to get your hopes high for anything positive.

And if somebody is interested in showing more support to his cause here are his contact details

One thing is for sure, Military has NO right or experience to impart education. Pakistan is the only unique country in the world where retired Generals are appointed in Universities. In every developed country in the world the Military only plays the role assigned to them.

Very unfortunate for Pakistan.

While I commend the kids initiative, fact cant be ignored tht hes in an 'educational' institute. He there to learn, not rebel against that very body. he is spending his parents money there right?

my point is he should be focusing on the task at hand i,e, his education et al.

Trust me, going against college/university admin is never a good idea, Ive been @ the forefront of some protests mself in m college days, and let me tel u my institute is known for its liberalism as well as its strictness in karachi! needless to say whether it was protest against poor quality of food in the cafe, or fighting against irregular hiring/firing of teachers... private sector institutes are tough cookies... unless u belong to some Generals/Businessman/politicians clan!

Wanna see protesting???

Come to Karachi University and I;ll show you how its done :p

I have.

let me make it clear: I am not against this sorta protesting, period. When its done in an orderly fashion and the demands are clear and no persoanl motivations are involved its kosher.

the point I was trying to make is he is either destroying his career, or on the road to becoming our own Ana Hazare you decide, and we'll see.

as far as military/educational institutes are concerned, well thats not a very stable mixture. as long as its world class institutes as west point, or our own kakul academy its fine and dandy, but places like these are pure business concerns and should be treated as such. things can get outta hand pretty quickly and we have clusterflucks like Kent shootings (protesting unarmed students shot point blank in the frikking USA the bringer of freedom, giver of justice and liberator of the enslaved hallelujah!!)

something I've been reading lately (oh, irony u are a fickle Abuses will lead to ban!)

'In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage. '

Not sure about the Islamabad campus, but here at Karachi Campus the staff is good and co-operative. And we don't have a dress code either.
