[h=1]Star Wars 7 Rumor: BB-8 Is A Female Droid ‘Pivotal’ To the Plot[/h]

As we approach the new era of Star Wars on film, Lucasfilm is making a concentrated effort to diversify the saga’s cast of characters. One of their top priorities seems to be increasing the franchise’s appeal with female audiences, illustrated by the third and final Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer painting Episode VII as Rey’s (Daisy Ridley) story.
But what if Rey isn’t the only new female to have a primary role in Star Wars 7? One of the new characters that’s been very prevalent in marketing is droid BB-8, who is already a fan-favorite. Many have just assumed that the little robot – like R2-D2 and C-3PO before – would be classified as a “he,” but a new report indicates that BB-8 is actually a girl.

The news comes courtesy of Mirror who are citing unnamed sources claiming that since “there has never been a strong female robot in any Star Wars film,” Abrams was committed to making BB-8 a girl droid. It’s also implied that BB-8’s unique soccer ball design was made specifically to appeal to girls. Obviously, it’s important for readers to take the details with a grain of salt here. So far, there’s been nothing official to indicate BB-8’s gender (if droids have such a thing).

Regardless, the second portion of Mirror‘s report is far more interesting. They also say that BB-8 plays a “pivotal” role in the Force Awakens plot, which is something many have garnered due to the character’s frequent appearances in the trailers. A rumored opening sequence from months ago indicated that BB-8 holds a valuable item that Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) is after and is the driving force for the narrative. We also learned from today’s new Star Wars 7 international trailer that BB-8 is not actually Rey’s droid but a droid she discovers during the course of the movie.
In this scenario, the similarities to R2-D2 in the 1977 original are very clear; BB-8 is the droid The First Order is looking for so they can gain an upper hand on the Resistance. It will be interesting to see how many homages to the classic trilogy Abrams incorporates in his film (there’s also strong parallels between Rey and Luke). Star Wars 7 is obviously banking on nostalgia, but finding the right balance between the old and the new will help it stand on its own and not come off as derivative.
Fortunately, this shouldn’t be too great of a concern. From what we’ve seen, Lucasfilm is doing their part in keeping things fresh, and there are still plenty of mysteries left to solve. If reaction to the movie’s trailers are anything to go by, The Force Awakens is shaping up to be a rousing space adventure in the vein of the beloved originals.
Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens hits theaters on December 18th, 2015, followed by Rogue One: A Star Wars Story on December 16th, 2016, Star Wars: Episode VIII on May 26th, 2017, and the Han Solo Star Wars Anthology film on May 25th, 2018. Star Wars: Episode IX is expected to reach theaters in 2019, followed by the third Star Wars Anthology film in 2020.

Theres a high probability that Lukes a baddie in the upcoming trilogy. Heres how I see it happening:

- people saying Lukes not gonna be featured much in Awakens are right. Thats cause he is the Sith Lord behind (most likely) Kylo Ren. Only problem is Knights of Ren are not siths, but this Ren guy could be. Who he is remains to be seen.

- IF Lukes a baddie then this first film will merely set him up. I bet we wont even see who or what his deal is until the second or third film. Remember this is Disney/JJ Abrams chance to make another 'Im your father' moment. Also remember this is the guy who made those full of hot air moments in Lost and the not so subtle Khan reveal in Star Trek. So theres a fifty/fifty shot he pulls it off and no one sees it coming.

- The only shred of evidence Kylo is Luke theory holds is we haven't actually SEEN Adam Drivers face from the front in any of the trailers, just back shots, mask etc. Highly unlikely but could be true. We know what the face beneath the mask looks like. I remember reading in some old boards that there was talk of making Luke into a cybernetic thing hunting the jedi, hence the different physical appearance we've seen in the trailers.

My personal take is this will a story of Luke versus Leia. And yeah Chewie or Han will proly bite the dust. This time around I hope to God hey dont mess around and make something actually worth watching and not cringing.

My money is on Luke being a Sith now. Hes got this new order with him (the Knights) who are self styled army modeled on the Empire (but different) hence the 'finishing what you started' line. Leia is hiding whether alone or with Han Solo remains to be seen, but are forced out of hiding once Rye is revealed to be connected to Luke/the Force. This happens after the battle we see in the trailers, with Xwings and tiefighters clashing. The 'rebels' or whatever loose this battle and Poe is taken hostage by the Knights and interrogated about Ryes whereabouts. This seems to be the Knights mission; Locate Lukes daughter! Remember at the start she says 'I am nobody' almost as if shes entirely aware of who she is and where she comes from but never wants to reveal.

[h=1]Star Wars 7 Rumored Supreme Leader Snoke Concept Art Emerges[/h]

As fans around the world count down the days until Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens finally arrives in theaters, marketing for the film is currently ramping up. While there won’t be another full trailer before the film’s release, Disney has released a new TV spot, production images, and new character posters to peak fan’s interest. And though The Force Awakens is already on track to be one of the highest-grossing films of all time, every new detail serves to whet our appetites and drive up advanced ticket sales.
We’ve learned quite a few details about the film from various marketing materials and tie-in merchandise, but the most exciting aspect of The Force Awakens is how much of the film is still a mystery. Despite longstanding rumors, Luke Skywalker’s (Mark Hamill) role in the new film is still largely unknown – and how exactly the new Star Wars characters relate to heroes from the original trilogy is the subject of many impassioned arguments.

Another unknown for the upcoming film is Supreme Leader Snoke, the motion-capture character portrayed by mo-cap master Andy Serkis. Aside from the fact that he is a powerful servant of the Dark Side and works with Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), little is known about Snoke. The character narrated the first Episode VII trailer, but the promotional materials have yet to even show his face. However, a new piece of concept art may have finally revealed Snoke’s identity.
[h=2]CLICK for Supreme Leader Snoke Concept Art[/h]Indie Revolver has released a new image of Snoke (click the above link) that the site claims is an early version of the character. It’s important to note that this is not an official image and might represent a discarded character design or be a well-crafted fake. That said, there’s reason to trust Indie Revolver‘s sources. After all, the site revealed the existence of a chrome storm trooper long before Gwendoline Christie’s Captain Phasma was ever officially announced.

Snoke appears to belong to an alien species not yet seen in the Star Wars movie universe – reptilian in nature and resembling a snake. He wears dark robes, as one would expect of a powerful member of the Dark Side. Though it’s hard to tell his body type from the image, it’s plausible that the character will be acrobatic based on rumors about Snoke (and his Force-using capabilities).
This could very well be what Snoke looked like at one point in production, but the odds of the Supreme Leader sporting this exact look in the final cut of Star Wars: The Force Awakens are slim. It’s a bit too on the nose, for Snoke to look so much like a snake. However, even if its just an early concept image, seeing the evolution of the character’s appearance will be enjoyable in its own right. Odds are we won’t get a proper look at Snoke until December 18th, so for now rumors and speculation will have to suffice.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens

[h=1]Star Wars 7 Image Gallery & Character Details: The Saga Continues[/h]

Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens, which director J.J. Abrams (Star Trek, Super 8) co-wrote with Lawrence Kasdan (The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi) based on the earlier script draft from Michael Arndt (Toy Story 3), has already broken pre-release ticket sales records, and is on course to set an opening box office weekend record too. The best part? We don’t actually know that much about the film, other than it takes place three decades after Return of the Jedi and introduces a new generation of characters in a galaxy far, far away.
However, it you don’t mind knowing just a little more about the film’s young protagonists – Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Finn (John Boyega) – and learning some interesting tidbits of information concerning The Force Awakens, then you should read on – and check out the latest images released from the seventh Star Wars live-action movie.

EW released a collection of Star Wars: The Force Awakens-themed magazine covers earlier today (at the time of writing this), and have now unveiled the following promotional stills for the film, along with details and quotes from the movie’s cast. Check all that out, below:

These first two Star Wars: The Force Awakens pictures show Rey, dressed appropriately to survive in the harsh desert environment of the planet Jakku, her handy flying vehicle at her side. Ridley explained to EW that “[Rey’s] been alone for a long time,” as her family left her on Jakku when she was only five years old, and Rey has never stopped hoping for their return ever since then (something that the Force Awakens Japanese trailer alludes to).

One popular theory is that Rey is the daughter of Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Leia (Carrie Fisher), who were forced to leave her on Jakku to keep her hidden from The First Order (a.k.a. the organization formed by the remnants of the Galactic Empire) – similar to how Obi-Wan Kenobi hid Luke Skywalker on Tatooine – and this, in turn, is why Han and Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew) show up to take Rey on an adventure aboard the Millennium Falcon, with Finn in tow (see the image of Finn, Chewbacca, and Han above). That being said, rumor has it that Rey’s parentage will remain a mystery even after The Force Awakens is done, so the matter remains open for speculation for the time being.
As for those fans who’ve theorized that Rey’s staff is secretly a lightsaber, well, Ridley has bad news:
“[It’s] just a staff. She’s a young woman in a galaxy by herself. It’s not primarily a weapon, it’s useful as well. It does all sorts of things roamin’ around Jakku. She uses it to defend herself. That’s really as far as it goes, unfortunately.”

Judging by the above Star Wars: The Force Awakens images, Finn and Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) – an X-Wing fighter who serves The Resistance a.k.a. a new Rebel Alliance – initially cross paths when Finn is still actively serving as a stormtrooper, and Poe has been captured by the First Order; see the scene in the third Force Awakens trailer, where Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) is shown interrogating/torturing Poe for information. Moreover, it seems Finn is instrumental in rescuing Poe, making their reunion at one of the Resistance’s bases (also shown in the latest trailers) a friendly one.

EW reports that the First Order’s stormtroopers – which includes Finn – in Star Wars: The Force Awakens are “raised from childhood to serve this remnant of the scattered Imperial forces [and] are fed propaganda about the heroes of the Rebellion.” For example, stormtroopers are taught that Jedi Master Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), whose own role in the Force Awakens‘ narrative remains under-wraps, is not a hero but “a villain who destroyed the benevolent Empire.”
Also of interest: Abrams told EW that “We had women in stormtrooper costumes in the movie,” so a certain stormtrooper captain (more on her momentarily) isn’t the only woman working for The First Order in The Force Awakens.

Kylo Ren, shown about to face-off with Finn and Rey on a mysterious “ice planet”, belongs to a group known as the Knights of Ren: a group of dark Force users whose seem to idolize the Sith, based on the footage of Kylo – who’s shown swearing his devotion to the burnt remains of Darth Vader’s mask – that has been featured in the Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailers.
Ridley, for her part, told EW that Rey, Finn, and Kylo all start out in a similar place emotionally in the film (despite the differences in their allegiances), having said that “Rey, Finn, and Kylo, they all start off in a place where they have been led to feel like they’re wanting.” And here’s some related trivia: Captain Phasma’s (Gwendoline Christie) chrome armor was originally the outfit worn by Kylo, before the Phasma character was added to the Force Awakens‘ ensemble.

The droid BB-8 is rumored to play a key role in The Force Awakens, much as astromech droid R2-D2 did in Episode IV: A New Hope. How much BB-8’s mission in the film resembles R2-D2’s remains to be seen, though Neal Scanlan (the head of the Force Awakens creature shop) offered the following, with regard to the difficulties of designing the different aliens’ facial arrangements for the film versus BB-8’s more simplistic design (with lens, aerials, and panels):
“You could move one component and the face would start to have a slight sad look about it or slightly aggressive. You want them to be able to talk to you before they move. And if they can do that, then the movement adds extra [characterization] on top.”

Lastly, many of you will no doubt recognize this Jakku inhabitants from Star Wars: The Force Awakens, as they’re the alien who was first featured in the promotional video for Lucasfilm’s “Force for Change” charity contest (which launched shortly after the film had entered production back around mid-2014). Scanlan had the following to offer, regarding this “mysterious” supporting character (Luke, is that you? Probably not, so, moving on…):
“He was envisaged as this sort of seller who would lumber his way to the market every day, selling these rather weird and strange creatures, which he had in the cages. He’s very slow, he’s very laid back.”

Star Wars: The Force Awakens
hits theaters on December 18th, 2015, followed by Rogue One: A Star Wars Story on December 16th, 2016, Star Wars: Episode VIII on May 26th, 2017, and the Han Solo Star Wars Anthology film on May 25th, 2018. Star Wars: Episode IX is expected to reach theaters in 2019, followed by the third Star Wars Anthology film in 2020.

[h=1]Star Wars 7 – The Force Awakens Runtime Revealed[/h]

In just over one month (from the time of this writing), fans around the world will bear witness as the force awakens and Star Wars 7 hits theaters. It’s been a long road for fans of the franchise – after George Lucas’ prequel trilogy failed to live-up to expectations. In the time since, Star Wars video games have come and gone without fanfare and Lucasfilm batted around the idea of a live-action TV series set in the Galaxy Far, Far Away; however, it wasn’t until Disney purchased the Star Wars brand that momentum started building for a revival of the force.
Now, three years after the announcement of Disney’s acquisition, through all the casting announcements, teaser trailers, leaked merchandise, and (lately) official interviews, fans do not have to wait much longer for Star Wars‘ return to theaters. Each day brings new speculation, and much is still locked in J.J. Abrams’ now-standard vault of secrets; yet, in the run-up to release moviegoers are also getting concrete answers: today, we’ve learned just how long viewers will be sitting in the theater when The Force Awakens.

Over the last few days, Entertainment Weekly has been pushing out new behind-the-scenes details from their time interviewing the cast and crew of Star Wars 7. In the process, we’ve learned more about Starkiller Base and General Hux (played by Domhnall Gleeson) as well as received confirmation that our Luke Skywalker backstory questions will be addressed when The Force Awakens finally hits theaters. But, outside of the fictional narrative, the upcoming issue also reveals that Abrams has finished editing Episode 7 – and settled on a runtime of 2 hours and 15 minutes.
Here’s the official word from EW:
“The final edit of Star Wars: The Force Awakens is complete and has a running time of 2 hours and 15 minutes. Picture was locked on November 3rd 2015 at midnight, but JJ Abrams and crew will be spending the next few weeks finalizing the film’s visual effects, sound effects and a final scoring session with composer John Williams.”
Readers who are less familiar with post-production processes might be surprised to hear that Abrams is still working on the movie – specifically that the director and collaborators are still fine-tuning the film with only one month before release. As indicated in the quote, the filmmaker won’t be making sweeping changes at this point, allowing for Lucasfilm to announce a finalized runtime, and is merely tinkering with special effects, sound, and score.

At 135 minutes, The Force Awakens is right in step with most Star Wars film entries; though, where exactly it lands on the spectrum of shortest to longest Star Wars series films depends on which original trilogy version is used – given that the Return of the Jedi “Special Edition” also runs 135 minutes.
In case you’re wondering, here’s the full breakdown:

  • Star Wars 1: The Phantom Menace – 136 min
  • Star Wars 2: Attack of the Clones – 142 min (IMAX Edition – 120 min)
  • Star Wars 3: Revenge of the Sith – 140 min
  • Star Wars 4: A New Hope – 121 min (Special Edition – 125 min)
  • Star Wars 5: The Empire Strikes Back – 124 min (Special Edition – 127 min)
  • Star Wars 6: Return of the Jedi – 134 min (Special Edition – 135 min)
  • Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens – 135 min
While A New Hope is the shortest Star Wars movie, it’s worth noting that IMAX presentations of Attack of the Clones cut 22 full minutes from the regular film (due to size limitations of IMAX film platters) – technically making Episode 2 the shortest entry screened (depending on where it was viewed) at 120 minutes. Ultimately, The Force Awakens is longer than all original trilogy entries, even the Special Editions, but shorter than all of the prequel trilogy entries (IMAX edition not included).

At 2 hours and 15 minutes, fans should get a lot of Star Wars for their money but The Force Awakens will also have a significant amount of exposition to get through – in order to payoff prior narrative arcs, tell the Episode 7 story at hand, while also setting the stage for Star Wars 8 (and future installments in the shared universe). That all said, Abrams’ Star Trek “reboot” came in at 127 minutes – facing similar challenges (building on previous films and laying a foundation for sequels). So, a 135 minute runtime for Star Wars 7 isn’t a significant departure from a framework that the director previously found success in.
That all said, fingers crossed that Abrams has set aside a decent chunk of that 2 hour and 15 minute runtime to shed some light on where Luke Skywalker has been the last thirty years.

Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens
hits theaters on December 18th, 2015, followed by Rogue One: A Star Wars Story on December 16th, 2016, Star Wars: Episode 8 on May 26th, 2017, and the Han Solo Star Wars Anthology film on May 25th, 2018. Star Wars: Episode 9 is expected to reach theaters in 2019, followed by the third Star Wars Anthology film in 2020.

[h=1]Star Wars 7: Andy Serkis Teases ‘Powerful’ Supreme Leader Snoke[/h]

One of the biggest mysteries about Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens is the whereabouts of Jedi Master Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), but the hero of the original trilogy isn’t the only Star Wars 7 character fans have not seen. Villain Supreme Leader Snoke (Andy Serkis) has also been kept under wraps, with alleged leaked concept art the only clue viewers have in regards to his appearance.
From the sound of it, Snoke will essentially be the Emperor Palpatine of the sequel trilogy; a powerful Dark Side user who commands the First Order and is a mentor to Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), perhaps even manipulating New Republic senators towards his cause. As fans await their first official look at Snoke, Serkis provided more clues about the evildoer’s personality and stature.

Speaking with Empire, Serkis detailed the process that was used to film his Force Awakens scenes. The man behind Gollum and Caesar the ape once again donned his famous mo-cap outfit, but director J.J. Abrams went the extra mile to illustrate Snoke’s apparently towering figure:
“It was quite an unusual situation. I worked specifically with Domhnall Gleeson and with Adam Driver. My first day was basically standing on a 25-foot podium doing Lord Snoke without the faintest idea what he looked like… or in fact who he was! I was very high up, totally on my own, away from everybody else, but acting with them.
“We used sort of a ‘Kongolizer’ method of having sound come out of speakers to give a sense of scale and distance for the character. So it was very challenging and scary, in fact probably one of my most scary film experiences I’ve ever had.”
Serkis previously indicated that it would have been impossible to play Snoke with makeup because of the character’s facial features and the fact that he “appears tall.” With Serkis standing on a 25-foot podium for his scenes, one has to wonder just how tall Snoke will be in the finished film. However, it’s more likely the platform was used more to give Gleeson and Driver something practical to look up towards while shooting, rather than an accurate portrayal of Snoke’s size (since nobody had finalized his look at the time).
Andy Serkis in Avengers: Age of Ultron

Serkis also reiterated his prior statements concerning Snoke’s vulnerability, teasing fans with a villain who seems more complex than what we’ve seen in the other Star Wars movies:
“He is severely damaged. Although he’s a powerful leader, he comes across as vulnerable. Very scarred and disfigured.”
Serkis has claimed that Snoke is a “newly-created character,” implying that Snoke was not heavily involved in the events of the previous films (though he has knowledge of what happened). With that in mind, it will be interesting to learn more about his backstory and rise to power when the film finally opens next month. The Star Wars franchise is one known for its iconic villains, and the enigmatic Snoke certainly has the potential to be the next in the pantheon of greats, continuing the tradition of Darth Vader and the Emperor as an intimidating, but compelling, threat that must be stopped at all costs.

[h=1]Star Wars 7 Has Already Made $50 Million In Early Ticket Sales[/h]

On October 19th, Disney and Lucasfilm unveiled the third and final full-length trailer for Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens and used the buzz of its release to begin selling advanced tickets. The buzz for the film all year long has been as strong as the Force and just as the trailer broke viewing records, so to were advanced ticket sales records broken.
It wasn’t a surprise given the success of Disney’s #ForceFriday merchandise campaign to unveil and sell Star Wars 7 toys and seeing frequent reports of how the return of the saga has paid for itself already in licensing deals. Lucrative partnerships are helping do all the promotion work for Disney so they don’t even need to. Star Wars sells itself as they say and already, a month before The Force Awakens opens in theaters, it’s made over $50 million in ticket sales.

According to THR, in North America alone, Star Wars 7 has earned more than $50 just from advanced ticket sales. That’s already double the previous record holder in The Dark Knight Rises. And you can expect similar successes overseas. Of the pre-ordered seats, approximately a third of the sales are coming from just IMAX tickets and while there are widespread reports of sold out theaters in certain locations, and nasty overpriced eBay re-sellers, there are loads of seats still available across the continent.

This raises the question again of just how much money Star Wars will make in its returning episode. Back in August, despite Disney CEO Bob Iger attempting to play down expectations, early and bold estimates saw Star Wars 7 potentially earning as much as $300 million in its opening weekend domestically and nearly $315 overseas, dwarfing the current record holder in Jurassic World which brought in $208 million in N. America ($524.4 worldwide total) this summer in its debut to nudge out Marvel’s Avengers $207 opening domestic haul in 2012.
More recent, and arguably more realistic numbers see Star Wars 7 at $225 million or $250 million locally but the wide range is difficult to narrow because of the history of smaller opening weekends in December when families are typically busy for the holiday season. These films (including the biggest movie ever in Avatar) make their money in the final weeks of the year and beyond, historically. Even the record holder for the month, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, only brought in $85 in its opening by comparison. Star Wars aims to change all of that forever.
