Salam,

I've been thinking about getting an SSD for my laptop to help speed it up.

I was under the impression, initially, that all SSDs are essentially very similar to each other in terms of speed. After reading a bit online, it seems this isnt the case.

I don't believe 120gb vs 240gb will make much difference, since I'll be using this drive only for Windows and software like word, powerpoint etc.

So I'm asking for advice on a 120gb or 240gb SSD that offers both very good speed as well as longevity. I'm willing to pick 120gb if the difference in speed is significant.

Thanks!

if you're just going to be using windows and general tasks then get a 120gb if you don't need more space. it's going to make a substantial difference in the way your laptop feels. get a samsung, been using samsung ssds for years, not a single problem.

For windows and limited softwares, yes, 120GB is alright. There is some speed difference between 120gb and 240/256GB variant SSDs, however, almost unnoticeable, unless you go with Synthetic figures.

Some brands e.g. kingston have low (almost half) write speeds. You can check benchmarks online.

Samsungs are pretty good. 120 GB is low, go for something bigger.
