so having bought my recent rig which is the following
core i3 4150
gigabyte h81m-ds2 rev 3 board
8gb ddr 3 ram
nvidia gtx 650

now few days ago i updated the bios and then restarted my pc and it gave me a bluescreen , found out i had to turn on ide in the bios settings and along with the use optimized defaults. i also enabled the fast boot option. earlier my pc took almost 3 seconds to boot from windows logo screen to the login screen and now it takes 2 to 3 minutes.. and its really frustrating me, what could be the culprit? do i need to enable the ultra fast boot option and is there any timing option in the bios?

plz help me
thanx

4th gen. has very confusing boot options, like UEFI, Lagacy, etc.... i guess these settings got disturbed... try to play with the settings and check the results..

yo might installed the Window in UEFI mod and now Bios is booting in Lagacy or vice versa

Are you booting into an HDD or a SSD? my comp is 4th gen, boot time on the ssd is hardly 2-3 sec, on the hardrive 9 seconds I think.

  • Try switching everything to default.
  • Also try re-plugging your component cables, like IDE, HDD cables, dvd rom connector etc. It may be that some devices are not being detected and the system is taking time on that.
  • Also remove any usb devices connected at startup.
  • Try your ram sticks separately one at a time
  • Sometimes an update can reset your boot priorities so check those, it may be that its checking the dvd or any usb devices to check for the system files.
  • Sometimes an update can mess up the bios internal clock which delays booting. So check that in the setup as well.
  • If all fails try removing and reinstating your cmos battery, if that doesn't work try a new cmos battery, just in-case.

Normally delayed boot times means an end of your HDD's life, so I'd check that too. Remove the HDD and then boot up the sys. see how fast it goes to missing system files message. If its that then your HDD is dead or close to it.

Also note, a blue screen is 99% always a hardware issue or conflict.

along with what guys said above me.
Which OS are you using? because windows 8 have less boot time compared to windows 7..
If you are booting from HDD, check your drive from 3rd party software for disk health and bad sectors.
Defrag your HDD once in a month.. if you are using SSD, DONT DEFRAG SSD!!!
even for defrag, i would recommend using good 3rd party software.
After windows logo if its taking long time to show login screen and long time to login, check your windows for any sort of malwares, spywares or trojans.. check what kind of applications are set to auto run at startup
If all else fails,
that is what fellow PG members said above and what i said..
Install fresh copy of windows 8.1
Cheers.
may the booty be with you..

What exactly do
You mean you had to enable "IDE" cause IDE is an old protocol for storage, nowadays it AHIC or something, of its set to IDE change it to the other and see if that helps.
