[h=1]Shane Black’s Predator Catches a Ride in New Set Photo[/h]

The titular character in director Shane Black’s upcoming reboot The Predator has been captured in a candid photo from the film’s set. The Predator, of course, is a monumental project in Black’s career, since it comes more than 30 years after the screenwriter and occasional actor assumed a supporting role opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger in the original film in the series, Predator, in 1987. In the interim, while the character has gone on to appear in Predator 2, Predators and the Alien vs. Predator films, Black settled in to writing and directing such films as Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Iron Man 3 and The Nice Guys.
Little by little, Black has been revealing details about his Predator reboot (described as a sequel to the original Predator), but on Sunday, Jarrod Au, a photographer who apparently had access to the film’s set, caught not one, but two Predators hitching a ride on a tank on the film’s set and posted the photo on Instagram. One of the Predators was facing frontward on the tank, but the other one clearly was aware of the photographer’s presence, going so far as to flash a pair of “peace” signs.
While Black has previously described the character in a tweet to emphasize that the he would be an actor in a suit rather than using CGI, the production has yet to release an official photo of the Predator (an obscured photo of the character, however, appears in the film’s poster). Since two of the hashtags on the post noted #productionstill and #productionstills, it essentially states that Au’s access to the set was permitted. See the photo below:

The interesting thing about the photo is that two Predators are pictured, which could mean a number of different things. For one, it could say that more than one actual Predator will be featured in the film; but in all likelihood, one of the Predators is a double for the other. The title of the film, after all, is The Predator, which clearly denotes one, well, Predator. It’s certainly a lot less confusing than trying to figure out if The Last Jedi is singular or plural.
Whatever the case may be, fans will likely be comforted by this set photo knowing that Black has not messed with the classic look of the original Predator with his reboot. True, CGI enhancements will no doubt be made to the character, but the Predator’s look is definitely there. If anything, the new set photo serves as just one more reason for fans to get excited for the return of the classic alien creature, which is currently slated for August 2018.

[h=1]Jake Busey’s The Predator Character Has Ties to the Franchise[/h]

Jake Busey reveals that his character in Shane Black’s The Predator shares a connection with other films in the franchise. As one of cinema’s preeminent badass monsters, the Predator has understandably done battle with many recognizable actors. The most famous of those is of course the alien hunter’s original opponent in the first movie: action icon Arnold Schwarzenegger. The Predator‘s debut also saw him battle with future governor Jesse “The Body” Ventura, and Carl “Apollo Creed” Weathers. Not to be outdone, Predator 2 then saw the titular creature tangle with Lethal Weapon star Danny Glover, as well as Aliens vet Bill Paxton.
One of the Predator’s most sinister human enemies to date was also in Predator 2, that being Peter Keyes, a secret government agent on an undisclosed mission not to kill the monster but instead capture it. Played by Gary Busey, Keyes is a similar character in many ways to scheming corporate executive Carter Burke (Paul Reiser) in the aforementioned Aliens, although much more capable with a firearm.

Earlier this year, it was announced that Gary’s son Jake Busey was set to carry on the family legacy by joining the cast of The Predator, Shane Black’s upcoming new installment in the storied franchise. At the time, details on the younger Busey’s role was scarce, but in a recent interview with The Red Booth, the actor revealed an interesting tidbit: He’s set to play the son of his dad’s Predator 2 character. For the Buseys, the Predator is a family affair.

Beyond the parentage of Jake Busey’s Predator character though, it’s still unknown exactly what function he’ll serve in the plot of the new film. One assumes that Keyes’ son might have grown up to also be a sinister government agent, one perhaps intent on avenging his father’s death at the hands of the galaxy’s most dedicated lethal sportsman. Then again, Black and co. could easily try to surprise fans by having this new Keyes behave a lot more honorably than his deceitful dad.
Having wrapped filming earlier this month, the time for the world to get reacquainted with Stan Winston’s monstrous creation draws ever closer. With Busey confirming that his character is the son of Peter Keyes, that seems to confirm that Black’s film — often dubbed a reboot — is in fact set within the established Predator continuity. It’ll be interesting to see how all the various lingering franchise threads come together.

[h=1]The Predator is ‘Not a Sequel’, Says Keegan-Michael Key[/h]

One of the stars of the upcoming The Predator has stated that “It’s not a sequel“. Keegan-Michael Key (Friends from College) has dropped some hints about the much-anticipated next entry in the popular franchise, and one thing that he is also keen to stress is that he doesn’t think fans will be disappointed.
Originally announced back in June 2014 by Fox, director/writer Shane Black (Iron Man 3) wrapped up filming The Predator back in June. Whilst the details of the plot have been kept under total secrecy, various teases and small details have inevitably leaked online and started rumors about things which may or may not be included in the finished film. Jake Busey is said to be playing the son of Gary Busey’s character from Predator 2, while some set photos showed the Predator riding in a tank. And yet we still don’t officially know how or if the story will acknowledge the past films in the franchise. We do know that it has an incredible cast – one which Keegan-Michael Key joined back in January.
Key made some interesting comments about the film when talking to EW. Referring to its relationship to the 1987 original, he says;
“Predator was a real privilege to do, and if people think they’re going to see a remake of the original movie, they’re in for a surprise, A very pleasant surprise … It’s not a sequel… It certainly lives in the universe of the five films that were made. I think that’s probably the best way to say it and the only way I can say it right now.”

Whilst Key denies The Predator is a direct “sequel“, going by his other comments and previously-reported details, it’s clear that it exists within the “reality” that the other films have occupied. By directly distancing itself from being an obvious continuation of any previous story, it probably indicates that it will have a standalone plot, but is likely to still contain some nods and references to previous entries. Other cast member Boyd Holbrook had already indicated that it was far from a sequel, and Black himself has already hinted at The Predator‘s place in the franchise timeline. Still, it’s nice to see Key speak so positively about his experience and hear his confidence that the film will be a crowd-pleaser that will exceed expectations.
The movie also stars Sterling K. Brown, Trevante Rhodes, Jacob Tremblay, Olivia Munn, Edward James Olmos, Yvonne Strahovski, and Alfie Allen. Black of course costarred alongside Schwarzenegger in the original Predator, and is eager to revitalise the franchise with this entry, making it an “event movie”. With it set to earn an R-rating and Black using extensive practical effects, this is promising to be an intense experience. We look forward to seeing The Predator and will keep you up to date with further developments in the meantime.

[h=1]The Predator Cuts Edward James Olmos' Character Due to Shorter Runtime[/h]
Edward James Olmos has been completely cut from Shane Black's The Predator. Olmos had been cast in the movie back in March as a Military General, but now it looks like he won't be appearing at all.
The Predator has had a rough production, to say the least. The film was first announced back in 2014, and the release date has been pushed back several times since. The film has also gone through several sessions of reshoots. It also took longer than usual for the first trailer to be released, and even when it was, fans didn't seem overly pleased with the look of the new film. Black even admitted that the original ending of the film had to be reshot because it wasn't scary enough. More reshoots began last week, even though the film is set to be released in a little more than a month. While the massive reshoots are troubling enough, characters are now being cut from the film.

As first reported by Slash Film, Olmos won't be appearing in The Predator as previously planned. When asked about his role in the film Olmos commented, "I'm not in the show though. It was too long so my character, they had to take me out. They were like half an hour, 3/4 of an hour too long. So I understand why". Olmos himself doesn't seem to be terribly disappointed by the news, but fans of his previous work such as Battlestar Galactica and Blade Runner certainly will be.

Since 30-45 minutes of the film are being chopped out, Olmos may not be the only character who gets cut out of the final product. With this much footage being removed, it's likely that other minor characters will be left on the cutting room floor as well. Despite concerns fans may be having about The Predator, the crew already seems to be praising the film. At San Diego Comic-Con, Trevante Rhodes, who plays the character Williams, commended stunt actor Brian Prince for his work inside the Predator suit. Producer John Davis has also mentioned that The Predator sets up two sequels, and that he wants Shane Black to return for both entries. When it comes to sequels however, it all depends on how well The Predator does at the box office.

The Predator stands as a sequel/reboot to the Predator franchise. The extra-terrestrials have been a focal point for five movies, including
Predator, Predator 2, AVP: Alien vs. Predator, Aliens vs Predator: Requiem, and Predators. Besides the first film, the Predator movies haven't gotten much critical praise, which Black is no doubt trying to fix with this latest effort. It won't be too much longer before fans find out if he succeeded.
