Samsung has a giant 18-inch tablet... Don't ask why!

Don’t ask why, but Samsung has a huge new tablet: the 18.4 inch Galaxy View, which features a handle on the back because it’s so ridiculous.

The oversized screen runs Android and is positioned for “content watching” at home with 1080p, stereo speakers and a “video centric” interface.

What’s cool is that interface is designed to get you straight to watching video regardless of the source, which is a nice touch for all you want to do is some Netflixing.

Out of the box you’ll get a 2.1 megapixel camera (2 megapixels? why even bother?) for video calling, 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, though a MicroSD slot will let you expand that to 128GB.

Samsung positions it as “powerful and immersive” because it’s giant and features a kickstand, as well as a handle for “easy moving” though I have a feeling my not-so-huge laptop will work just fine.

I could see this as useful in the kitchen, or positioned as a tablet to entertain children, but it feels a little oversized to be useful for much else.

Samsung didn’t say when the View will be available, nor did it provide a price.

Because Samsung thought if Apple can make a big iPad, they can make a bigger one.

I think folks at Samsung are over-compensating for something as they always focus on bigger screen size...

Lets not forget that it was Samsung which induced the trend of large screen displays, starting with its Note series. And look where the industry is now. Even the most basic of smartphones aren't aiming for any less than 5".

Samsung is a trend setter. If you observe its pattern, you'll notice that its flooding basically each and every market segment with its products. I have to say, identifying an 18 inch segment was clever. Its not a question of "Why". Its a question of "Why Not".
