Ptcl 4Mbps downstream Rate Problem

I have ptcl 4mbps dsl but i am receving only 3.4mb at speed test and my downstream rate in modem is 4096 but before 1 month ago i was at 4608 when i was getting speed around 3.90 at speed test what should i do ??? Should i go to exhcnage for upgrade my port ?? Need your suggestions guyz

As far as I know, you never get full speed. I have been using PTCL for years now. Even if the router shows that you have 4096, it would give you round about the speed you are getting. I have a 8 MB PTCL internet and I get about 7 MB on average. When I'm downloading something on torrent only then I get 8 MB download speed.

File a complaint for bad line parameters, when they call, tell them someone f*cked up your line profile.

Have you downloaded any thing With Idm ? whats the speed ?
easy way to check speed is to start downloading on idm from a good server like download.com or microsoft/Apple then open task manager point to network and check the speed from there make sure to set the refresh speed to highest

Seriously speaking you were getting 3.9mbps before because modem was syncing at 4600 kbps instead of 4096. The overhead on PTCL is huuuuuuuge regardless of whether a connection is ADSL or VDSL. You need to ask/convince the relevant person in related PTCL exchange to increase the sync rate of your modem to compensate for overhead. You won't get 4mbps DL speed or something near it unless they increase the modem sync rate. When my 12mbps VDSL connection used to sync exactly at 12mbps I would never get the DL speed above 10.3-10.5mbps. When they increased the modem sync rate after sorting out the problem with line parameters that happened sometime ago it's now giving 11.7mbps which is acceptable for a 12mbps connection but 10mbps isn't.

That isn't true. Theoretical maximum speed a 1megabits connection can give is 128 KiloBytes/sec or 1024kilobits (google for conversion between bits & bytes if you want more detail). That way a 4mbps is supposed to give a value near 512KB/s not 400KB/s. Taking some line losses into account a decent download speed for 4mbps connection is above 480-490 KB/s.

bro you were getting more than 4mb when you had 4600 downstream. i had the same thing, but when i shifted it got reduced to actual 4mb. you cannot ask them to give you more than what you pay for, that is 4mb.

Yesterday i visit my exchange i told him my story and they said this parameters are good you are lucky if you are getting speed 3mb+ wtf !!!
I said you can increase my parameters but he said we cannot we can only send your 4mb pakcgae request agaian to islamabd ?? Is he right ?? Is it possible from islamabad ???
