AOA,

I am relatively new to photography and struggling to achieve great results. I have a Nikon D5500 and an 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6G lens. I am planning to get a prime lens for Fashion Photography (full length and half body portraits) for my DX camera. Which lens would suit the purpose better? A Nikon 50mm f/1.8G or 35mm f/1.8G prime lens? (85mm is too narrow on DX so not an option and also it makes people look a little fat than they actually are...)

These are the type of results I'm trying to achieve (inspired by Abdullah Haris' Photography):

Thanks :)

Those type of photos will be better taken by 35mm. 50mm is sort of single-focus and face-first lens.

But will it give me the same perspective, back ground compression & depth of field?
Yes and yes.

DoF is dependent on f1.8, which is lower(better) than any magazine cover you have posted above.

w.r.t perspective > Yes, more so than 50mm

Check out the pic below for reference

I see... the 50mm is making the person look more bloated than normal right?

I hope it won't give an unpleasing effect to the image (fish eye)...

Depends on from where you take the shot. The different is the slightly "wider" or a slight fish eye effect&(which you want) in 35mm from the same distance.

I just bought Nikon d3300 with kit lens and a 50mm 1.8 lens. I got this package in 47k. All of the stuff is new. Its just been a few days since I am using this camera. Results are great.

But, I wanted to know which lens should I buy next. Because for me the purpose of buying this camera was to do some casual photography, take better pictures of some family and friends' events and take great photos of picnics and stuff like that.

What I am further interested in is to take group photos and I mean awesome group photos plus full length portraits. I can take group photos from the kit lens but I want depth of field in group photos too. is it possible ? which lens should I now look for?

You reap what you sow. This is what happens when you take away choice from consumers. Even with 88% split going to developers, they can't recoup costs. Meanwhile, Helldivers 2 is a massive hit for Sony thanks in big part to Steam.
