Donno i m lost!!
I've finished the game and I've heard the OSTs in the all the above mentioned contexts and it's still not THAT great. GOOD but not as good as you think.

And 2ndly NO, a good OST can stand on it's own without context (sometimes having gampley on does make a huge diff but not in this case tbh), for example, I haven't played persona 5 yet but it's OST stands out on it's own without any gameplay context, another recent example of a good orchestral OST would be the WItcher III's ost. I started listening to that months before I played the game and I kept listening to some tracks on it regularly or quite a while.

But hey that's just my opinion :p
Dude I m not forcing anything on u :)

I mostly agree with you too. But still this game has great OST in my opinion becoz that was the only thing that kept me interested in gameplay which from route B onwards becomes way too repetitive to be fun.

[h=1]PlatinumGames is on the upswing, thanks to Nier: Automata[/h]

[h=2]A special shout-out to Yoko Taro[/h]

PlatinumGames has suffered some setbacks in recent years, but the success of Nier: Automata has co-founder Hideki Kamiya more excited about the studio than ever. In a touching tribute on Twitter, the designer heaped praise on Automata’s director — and noted oddball — Yoko Taro for helping the studio make a real turnaround.
Nier's success has to this point given Platinum a new fanbase, a growing staff, a brilliant success story, an increase in qualified job applicants, and a great benefit,” Kamiya tweeted, according to a translation from NeoGAF. “Normally, I can't help but do everything by myself ... it's a pitiful story, but to say that Yoko-san saved Platinum would not be an exaggeration. I cannot thank him enough.”
Kamiya is Platinum’s most public face, and he’s also one of the industry’s most outspoken. So, too, is director Yoko Taro, especially after Nier: Automata’s success. Best known for his penchant for wearing a giant mask, Taro’s been an active presence in the post-launch period for the game, which hit PlayStation 4 and Windows PC in March.
A lot rode on Nier: Automata, as its release came just weeks after the high-profile cancelation of PlatinumGames’ Scalebound. The Xbox One and Windows PC project had been one of Microsoft’s more anticipated titles, but delays and limited E3 appearancesdidn’t imbue confidence. In January, Kamiya announced that development had been canceled.
It didn’t help that Platinum’s preceding releases included the critically panned Star FoxZero and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan. The company’s presidentalso stepped down last May, not long after the release of Star Fox Zero.
Positive reviews helped Nier: Automata exceed Square Enix’s sales expectations, the publisher said in May; it’s sold more than 1.5 million copies thus far. That’s a win for action game fans, but it’s a bigger one for those who love some of PlatinumGames’ best known, most ambitious work — Bayonetta, Vanquish and The Wonderful 101among them, not to mention the library of predecessor Clover Studio.
PlatinumGames has mobile game-related projects on the docket for now, but Kamiya’s message sounds encouraging that the studio will have more exciting original games to come.

i didnt 'cry' i just pointed out that others are crying and cringing just like they always do when a certain game is not of their taste :p for me it was a 'good' game and I dont 'love' it :p there are better games out there for doing that..
though by the looks of things i bet you barely scraped out of the tutorial let alone get through the entire 'experience' that you cant even remember the names of the 2 main protagonists.... wow that really is 'sad' xD

I am in exactly the same boat as you. I am mostly an RPG lover so i asked at gamespot about good rpg and got so many votes for Nier Automata.
Bought on steam and then ended up refunding it. I own a steam account for almost 10 years and got around 250 games and this was my first ever game i refunded.
Extremely linear hack n slash style. Not my thing, its crime to say this game is RPG.

have fetish for.? xD so now people do gaming for french maids and skirt flashing only? xD no wonder they dont even get the names right after 'experiencing' the entire game....that IS 'sad' man xD and as far as 'paradoxing' myself goes i think i made it clear in the first post and the ones that followed it that i 'like' the game and people have their own different perspective about the game :p The game is no big shot..but its no bad game by any means... its an enjoyable game if you have the right taste....not fetish xD
