Intel plans to introduce a new quad core codenamed Yorkfield and this will be a new Core 2 Extreme. At this point Intel doesn't want to tell a frequency of a chip but this will depend on how fast is Barcelona or Agena FX as a matter of speaking.

The new CPU supports FSB 1333, has up to 12 MB of cache memory quad core and it firsts in LGA 775. This CPU comes in Q1 2008 but some sources close to Intel indicated that if possibly Intel can launch a limited number of these CPUs in Q4.

as u can see from above... Q6600 has the highest % of price cut

and intel is planning to get rid of quite a few CPUs including X6800, E6600, E6700 and E6300. The customers will get Product discontinuation notice in Q4 and there wont be any of these CPUs in Q1 2008 and on.
Intel will replace this one with X6850 and other X6x50 series as they should benefit from FSB 1333.

Intel will also discontinue E6340 and E6320. Quad core QX6700 is getting discontinued in November this year and the Product discontinuation notice will be sent in September. That is the time fo death of Pentium D 945 as well.

no buy e6600, its a good processor.... discontinuity only means that intel will not manufacture these processors... nothing bad.... all warranties etc. will be covered

beginner i have a question ? actually its sounds pathetic but i have seen some games which requires a P4 processor speed greater than 2.40Ghz ,and i am just thinking ... will E6600 will be able to run those games ?

Yaar It has Two Processor core Means 2.4*2 So it will be easy for the Processor to play these games and also 4MB Cach and 1066FSB

there is no limit of processing speed.... if u cool a processor enough u can get remarkable results.... for example if u cool p4 3.0 ghz with liquid nitrogen u can easily reach 8.0 Ghz

processor speed is measured by FSB(effective) x multiplier... for example a core 2 Duo E6300 processor having 1.86 Ghz speed will have FSB=266.4 and multiplier=7
