hi all,

few days back i went to hafeez centre to look for a netbook. i was surprised to see huge no of netbooks available in market but when i went any shop asking for netbook they forbade me from buying one. the reasons the gave to me were:
1. speed is not good
2. no dvd drive
3. crap display
4. poor build quality
5. cant run HD videos
6. huge no of complains from buyers, plus warranty claim procedure is not easy.

i know you guys are expert so i want to ask you guys; whether i should buy a netbook or not.

A Netbook is really a cheap rechargable computer meant for reading documents and webpages. So it depends on what you need. I think netbooks are way overpriced. However, all of the reasons they've given above would vary from company to company.

1. speed is not good
Depends what you are doing on it. Its a NETbook. The speed is fine for the purpose. Atom CPUs keeps the cost and operating temperatures low.
2. no dvd drive
EXTREMELY minor nuisance depending on your taste. Keeps the design slim and lightweight. Its an unnecessary add-on for a machine that is primarily meant to be used on-the-go. I never used the drive in my normal laptops either.
3. crap display
Depends on the brand. Viewing angles are usually not that good but the IQ itself is quite clear and sharp as some models offer high resolutions for their small screen size.
4. poor build quality
Again, depends on the brand you're looking at. Asus, some HP, Sony models have very good build quality.
5. cant run HD videos
They can actually. Intel Atom CPUs aren't that powerful, but they can handle 720p videos. Newer netbooks have nVidia ION graphics chip which greatly boost video performance as well.

so i want to ask you guys; whether i should buy a netbook or not.
It all depends on your needs and WHAT you'll be using it for. Don't expect it to be a powerful machine. But tasks like browsing, youtube HD, flash games, viewing PP slides, Word processing, PDFs, 720p videos etc etc will all run well. Its targetted for light weight application usage and for people who travel alot. For that purpose, the battery life is anywhere between 7-12hrs long so it does a good job for what its meant to do.

^Ditto.. Don't ask what you need from the shopkeepers, tell them what you need. They don't want to sell netbooks so much because the profit margins on netbooks are lower, in some time these same people will be telling people to buy netbooks. A netbook is different from a laptop, if you need all the things like HD Videos, speed, dvd drive, then your priorities are not suited to a netbook, better get a laptop wid crap battery life, do some weight lifting with it! LOL

Well ... Necro pretty much summed it up.
If you do want to buy one, then search a little bit, and choose the one meeting your Needs AND your budget.
