i am looking for an AGP card, having at least 256 MB and must be geforce 6600 or higher model. I would appreciate offers from Karachi. also must have some warranty left too.

no. galaxy does'nt sell 6 series anymore

only 7300 gs and 7600 gt, which is way out of my budget.

however if you find someone from galaxy having a 6600 or 6800 lying around somewhere, do contact.

well i did a lot of research for u buddy and , now possibly presenting u the best options u currently have in ur budget.

1 - u need 6600gt , but its not available here.

2 - ATI 9600xt , (AVAILABLE ON GALAXY for 4500 rupees ) although quite old but gives solid performance. I compared my ATi 9600 (normal) with my friendz MSI 6600 . The only difference i could see was which ever game i played on 800 x 640 resolution , he could play that on 1024 x 768 resolution.

Although i dont recommend this card for any new games.


3 - ATI HIS x1550 (AVAILABLE ON GALAXY for 4800 rupees) . 128-bit card, offers good performance for money , although the pixel pipelines r only 4.

actually, i am looking for something that might have at least shader model 3.0 on it, along with opengl 2.0, under 4500 Rs.
can you recommend anything that might be available in karachi, and possibly new?

yaar the thing is that PCI EXPRESS 2 grafix cards have started coming.
even PCI EXPRESS 1 is getting old.

AGP is now totally obselete. Under 4500 u can only get a SECOND HAND card that performs reasonably.

My suggestion would be to NOT waste ur money on any AGP card now. It will let u play some gamez but after 6 months or soo u will again feel the need of upgrading.
WAIT>... yes wait. Collect money , ask ur DAD for a complete PC UPGRADE . It may take u 6-9 moths to finally persuade him but it wil be veryyy well worh it.
Buying an AGP card now is a complete waste.

Or just try to pik up a cheap 2nd hand card just to pass that 6-9 months gap.

and dude you want an AGP card with warranty left for just 4.5k thats quite impossible ,
if you have P4 then tell us your rig specs, so then maybe we can suggest you a better upgrade in 4.5 ,

sorry pal but the truth is you dont have a very good mobo ,its a 478 socket you have to get rid of this mobo
or just change your motherboard for now ,i am also in your's same condition and i cant play any new games , and from 2 months i am asking my father for a whole pc upgrade ,

but before that i was going for a motherboard from AsRock model P4VM890 ,
its a hell of a board ,its for your and mine processor i mean socket 478 and it also has 677mhz ddr support and PCIxpress support

and last time when i enquired about this board it was available in karachi market ,@ rs 2450 , but it was about 3-4 months ago , now if you find this board or any board like this go with it ,,
or upgrade your whole rig

yaar the whole thing is that my dad ai'nt willing to give me 30k without any particular reason for changing my pc

also my mobo is also giving me trouble at the moment and I, most unwillingly, sent it for repair.

i have been nagging him for a new pc but he is not budging since last 6 months, can you imagine that!

so therefore, unless i get into university, he is not at all in any mood to buy me a new rig

so fawad bro go for the board i told you bro its worth it i will cost you just 2.5k ,but i dont the if its still avaailable in market or not ,i think you should have a look at the market ,,

other thing u can do is buy a second hand (used) 775 socket board and pro even buy used celeron for 775socket At the moment ,, cause the only thing you can do is slowly slowly upgrade your pc ,,,,,,,

with that card on same settings as with my 9600 . i was getting a 10fps difference in doom3.
my 9600 remained around 30fps. at 800*600 and high details.
for 5200 i was getting around 20fps so i had to lower the details and kept the resolution constant.

did u replace your capacitor??? are currently using it without capacitor?? coz if u r using it then u might soon be frying it

replacing a leaked or broken capacitor is easy... look the readings on capacitor (e.g 10uf) get another one with same value and solder it into position

yeah i already replaced the capacitor long time ago.
and it was not working without capacitor so how can i use it without the capcitor?
but the capacitor had a value that was very hard to find
i had to get it from regal after much searching.
but the drawback is my solid capcitor fell of and i replaced it with an oil capacitor (which isnt as good as solid ).
but i see no performance drop.
