your temps are fine. Weather is not that cold anymore. I doubt you would hit 70 even in mid summer. I can't understand why would you need to overclock an e8400 but if you still want to do it than a cooler is a must.

hyper 212+ is enough...............xigmatek thors hammer is good option as well its 4k exact @ IMX
cooler is needed only when you 're interested in overclocking. other at stock its not required exactly.
.
at full load 65c is good. but if your cpu at stock crossing 70c always , then its need to reapply thermal paste and reinstall your hsf

Bro reapply thermal paste with proper spreading.
Then check the temps if they are high then buy Hyper 212 evo or hyper 212 plus they are most valuable CPU coolers for O.C and everything..

Temps are slightly on the higher side, however try reapplying thermal goo and see the results. Recommended temps for a 45nm chip are 65C under full load, even above 65C you should be fine but it's not advisable.
For overclocking an aftermarket cooler is must something like Hyper 212+.

wrong.overclocking is not priority.i,ll buy cooler only if these temps are not safe in this weather.but no one has given clear answer

Temps are not good, but not too bad either. As I said, it's too much slightly high considering your CPU isn't entirely under load. You're safe, as long as your temperatures are around 70 or under. (y)

Ok then it means i dont need cpu cooler because 61c temp is at full load.another question.how much maximum temp a core 2 duo chip can bear and after that it will burn?

Going above 70C isn't good for the processor in terms of long term performance.

It would take at least 100C to fry your processor, in some cases, it takes even more.

READ IT WITH CAUTION!

80-85C, if you keep running your system at these temps for a long time then it MIGHT catch fire. Otherwise for some hours you'll be fine even at 90C. :p

BTW, stay around your system, if you see those temps. Aur paani ki balti bhi sath rakhna.

I had a prescott once which use to hit 110 in mid summer off course it throttled badly and system froze randomly but still it din't burnt. I am not saying that you should let your temps go to 100 but you shouldn't be too much worried if it hits 70 in summer.

The chip will NEVER burn. If it gets too hot it will automatically throttle back its speed and if that fails to keep temps in check it will shutdown the computer. The chip will NEVER burn.

I have e8400 and it idles at 56C! Sometimes it goes up to 80-90C under load. That is when it throttles back on speed. But it will never burn. The computer will automatically shutdown well before that happens.

The temps are almost fine,if you wana go for a cooler get a hyper 212+.
And you may also be able to oc your processor with this.
