My PTCL 4 MB @ ONU Experience

Hi guys, as discussed earlier that I recently got a new fiber optic aka ONU connection and was not happy with the speeds I was getting:

Today I upgraded my 2 MB package to 4 MB to test out the speeds I could get and here are the results:





I was getting 235 KB/s download speed on IDM and 200-210 KB/s download speed on utorrent when I was on 2 MB package on this same line.

Now I'm getting around 450 KB/s download speed on IDM and 400-410 KB/s download speed on utorrent on 4 MB package.

The old line parameters were:

Are the speeds and line parameters good enough????

Because my tenants upstairs use 4 MB wateen cable internet and I get around 480-500 KB/s download speed on IDM and 430-450 KB/s download speed on utorrent through that


Please also share your 4 MB speeds, location and if you are on copper or on fiber line.

Ever since I've switched to this fiber line there has been no disconnection issues and streaming+browsing is extremely fast so thumbs up there

Well dear you are getting decent speed according to your connection because I am getting 350 - 450 on my copper line connection and SNR margin variate between 12 to 15. So enjoy your Fiber DSL and finish your 300 GB limit

Yeah, your connection is fine. Your SNR has dropped quite a bit. Even though it won't cause any issues, it's still strange how it dropped that much.

Concerning the speeds you are getting on your line, yes, I get around the same speeds on my 4 Mbit connection.

My ping is much worse than yours.

So, just forget about the stats, and enjoy your new connection

^Try using ADSL2+ instead of G.dmt and see if that helps with your line parameters. but you still wont be getting full 4.0Mbps speeds because your port downstream is set to 4096 so after line losses you will get around 3.5Mbps, though you can get exactly 2.0Mbps now if you downgrade back to 2Mbps because your port is now of 4.

Man your SNR Margin has been dropped from Excellent to Pathetic but its quite odd to see that your Line Attenuation is still solid. And why are you syncing your line on ADSL G.dmt change it to ADSL2+ which will be back on track since I'm pretty sure. And my sincere apologies about your last post since I was very busy in some personal stuff that's why I was unable to share my Line Stats and Speedtest Results.
