ICS on HTC Desire?

As the thread title implies, I have an HTC Desire running 2.2 Froyo which sucks to be honest. I've read that it can be upgraded to ICS without sacrificing running speed that much. But I'm kinda new to this whole business of rooting Android devices and installing custom ROMs, and since I don't want to brick my phone I'm not rushing into any tutorials and need some questions answered before hand. One of them is which custom ROM I should install? Google results turn up loads which supposedly work good, but which one is most up-to-date and has the least bugs?

And if possible, can someone post a link to a reliable guide that is specific to HTC Desire (not Desire S). The overwhelming number of Google results has me confused.

You got a desire and non rooted with custom rom. You may will be from many few people's running stock on desire.

Will yes it's pretty complicated to do that stuff in phones, HTC feels hardest to me but desire is easier comparing newer HTC's.

I rooted and installed android 4.2 on my friend's desire a year back and now he is running 4.4 nightly.

And at last, you got a master piece device, the very original HTC Desire, on of the best of its times and still and very few ORIGINALS are left.

1) Turn off your phone.
2) Hold the volume down key and press power key.
3) The phone will boot into recovery
4) Share a screenshot here so we can know if your phone is S-OFF and the radio version

I see your phone is S-ON. you have to get S-OFF and root to install custom roms.

I used the same tool for my wildfire 2 years ago so I dont remember if they provide official tutorial but you can google it

s-Off is not really necessary, only kernel wont be install with rom and he will have to flash it through adb

S-OFF is not necessary to install a custom recovery, custom ROM or for rooting it.
It is just required if you want to flash kernel or baseband

Just head up to XDA
Don't flash ICS, directly flash JB on your phone
You will have a pleasant experience, i have installed ICS on my Wildfire & JB on my sister's Desire S.
It is not so difficult, you just need to spend a lot of time with it
