Calling out all networking gurus! Does anybody have any knowledge or first-hand experience of wiring a home for networking purposes? I'm talking structured wiring, a distribution box, the works. Or, can somebody point me to a professional service that can do everything. Must be Isl / pindi based. The house where this is to be done is under construction.

I can help you out with basic networking, you know ethernet via switches, wireless routing etc. But if you need professional help id recommend you contact a firm or an engineer.

no need to contact firm. U can ask me anything related to IT. I'm a Senior Network, System and Security engineer. So do tell me any issue u are facing. For structured wiring, boxes and misc....its upto u entirely. U can do it ur self or ask a local technician to help u out. My ex-Boss wired everything by himself, he even build the boxes, wire-straps, rack. So its ur choice.

@Ibbu Bhai, @shujaswati sorry for taking so long to get back.
Turns out I don't really need the network to do too much. Here's what I want to achieve:

1. Share an internet connection (e.g Nayatel) across multiple floors. What I mean is that say the Nayatel wirless router + modem is placed in the living room on the ground floor (or central wiring panel, if required for this). I want to be able to plug wireless routers in the basement and first floor living room so that they can connect with the one on the ground floor (or central wiring panel) and create a bridged connection this way. The objective is to have strong wireless signals throughout the house whilst having a single wireless network. I'm assuming it will be easy to give access to the network + internet to devices like consoles etc on all floors via the respective routers with this.

2. File sharing. I have plans of setting up a HTPC and running a plex media server on it in the basement. I want the option to be able to access files on the HTPC from the ground or first floor living rooms via ethernet.

Any other functionality gained will be a bonus.

I don't know much about networking so I need detailed help from you guys. In particular, I need an explanation of what sort of wiring is required to achieve the above, where to get the materials in Rwp/Isl and installation procedure. Also please explain whether all this needs structured wiring (where all cables go back to the central wiring point from the outlet - Home Run configuration)?

Feel free to suggest other / better ways to achieve the stuff I've mentioned. Thanks a ton in advance

fpj1, so you want to have strong wireless signals all around your house + Media server / File server. Well its easy.

I'll call nayatel modem (a) 1st-floor (b) and basement (c)

1) If basement and 1st floor modem got wireless options

If both modems got a wireless option just bridge them with your nayatel wireless modem. Turn off the DHCP option on both modems (b and c). Give it a manual in this sequence
(a) Main gateway/router = 192.168.1.1 (just follow the series you are already using but in this pattern)
(b) = 192.168.1.2
(c) = 192.168.1.3

You can assign modems IP from accessing it from their default IP via browser then change "Router IP"

Once you do it, simple bridge it with (a) by going to bridging option, giving IP of the main Modem (a), its mac and wireless channel. Thats it. Also, on the main modem (a) keep the DHCP on and exclude the addresses you assign manually to (b) and (c).

2) If (b) and (c) don't have wireless option

Just connect it using ethernet wires (networking cable in simple words) but connect in the simple ports (not the WAN ports). Actually both ports will help you share the internet but WAN port creates different IP segments. Like if you connect (b) and (c) via WAN ports it might be something like this
(a) 192.168.1.1
(b) 192.168.2.1
(c) 192.168.3.1

The only issue that people face in such method is file-sharing. It needs some extra configuration.

Also, turn off DHCP on both (b) and (c) and assign it manually as stated in the previous option. Install the PLEX Media Server on your System and it will be accessible all around the house :)
Hope that helps.

Thank you. I now understand the configuration part at least.

did you try setting up Google Payments? For UBL you may have to get it enabled for internet transactions, Naya should work without it!
