Asalam o Alaikum Dear PG ADMINS and all Senior members,

let me get straaight to the point, recently i bought SAPPHIRE R9 290 (used one), i put it in my pc and started gaming, i observed that the GPU TEMP rose to 95c in just 20 min, then i stoped gaming and let it to idle, it got to 51 at idle!!!!, then i contacted with the seller, he said it is normal for this card to rise upto 95c on full load, however i put 5 120mm FANS in case, 2 of which are on side panel blowing air directly on gpu, and the other 2 on top back and top blowing out, and the one on hdd side blowing in, so three fans blowing air in and two blowing out, when i start gaming again it got to 94c after 20 min again, and at idle it got to 44c. now i am depressed what to do. please mode and senior members help me. what should i do?? i really need help. i put so much cash on it. i dont want it to be toast up. :(

wrong section

however, try always to read reviews and post in "help section" before buying a hardware

if your GPU is "reference" then these temps are normal .......
try to increase GPU fan speed while gaming, it surely lowers the temps... casing fans will not lower temps of this GPU

if there is any instability/crash while gaming, then it might be GPU or drivers problem

Further try to increase the fan speed to 40%, the noicse should be bearable, btw, i read some where on the net that 290 has been developed to work at 94 O C during its whole life.

Sorry for the trouble, i was too nervous to post it early in the morning and in the wrong section..

Yes my GPU is reference gpu, how ever there is no instability or crashing in games yet. i was too scared to play game more then 30 min.

for reference card its pretty normal ..increase the fan speed untill u find satisfactory temps .. i would below 88c temps are good to go ...even 94c is not bad ..but i can understand it can make some one panic ..so increase fan speed and reach 86 or 85 on full load ..

best thing is to underclock it, i got 2 x 290x and the games that dont utilise that much power i underclock my gpus to 800mhz and 1000mhz mem , that way i get 65C on load and lets say farcry 4 also gives me stable 60fps.....best way to lower temps!

refrence gpu have hight temps.i do have dual x 270x and at max it never go above 75
yeah mine 270x was just like yours, never went above 73c on load. well it is very pleasant to know that my r9 290 underdog is well, so much releaf. also i want to know that will restricting gpu temp to 85% from CCC effect it performance?? i mean underclock or something? cause i want its full potential on my dispatch with minimum possible temps..

unless you are playing at 2560x1600 you wont need the higher clock speed or most imp vram. if you are happy with 60fps, try starting from 800, if you still get 60fps, go 775 and 25mhz down. i maybe new here. underclockiing will make the car slower but set a bsaeline in my case 60 coz monitor refresh rate is 60 so its like vsync on . youll get 60 anyway. underclocking wont effect the gpu in anyway. just dont undervolt it. keep the fan speeds slow as well to increase fan life. experiment with the settings that suit you . say (30% fan speed, 800,1000) 1080p maxed out farcry 4...60fps constant and 65C-70C ...with crossfire off. that is what i am doing now. only my model is 290x. if you got crossfire, enable it , and decrease the core/mem further.

I am really happy with such a detailed answer to my question. i have only one gpu so crossfire is not a problem, furthermore i have never played with underclocking or overclocking, and i game at 1680x1050p, i will try your way then let u know. could you please share a step by step procedure of underclocking it using CCC?

call me ill explain..... 03060320364

btw at this resolution even an r9 270 was enough, lowering it all the way down to 650/800 becuase it wont make a difference in performance...youll get 60+ fps in this res anyway,

open CCC
go to performance
go to amd overdrive
accept the aggrement
enable graphics overdrive
in the gpu clock put - 800
in the mem clock put - 1000
click apply

download and install fraps to see what fps you get. if you get 60+ or 60, decrease the values by 25mhz each. when fps starts dropping below 60. stop!
check temps and post here then. .....enjoy lowered temps.....low power consimption......long life of card

i downloaded fraps first before decreasing values i wanted to check if what will 290 do with FC4 on ultra settings. i was dissopointed to see that on every thing at ultra it gave me 30 frames. the frames were constant at 30, then i lowered AA and Ambient OC to minimum, but it still gave me 30 fps. when i moved back to very high then it gave me 60 fps. is AA and Ambient OC is so high effects that even 290 cant properly match upto.?? i am feeling sad..

AA is the most taxing!
make sure you use patch 1.4 in farcry and use new omega drivers (75% performance increased in 1 card situation)
then start from (800core-1000mem) increase (25/50)respectively.
monitor temps and fan speed

when you reply

post your game settings.
post core and mem clocks
post temps
post framerate

That's because you have Vsync on. Turn V-sync off in your game's video settings. But that usually results in a worse gameplay experience because of frame tearing. To resolve that to some extent, use D3DOverrider.

u know brother u can just apply vsync on games and lock the fps at 60 ..gpu wont use more than 60 fps .. no need to downclock and that ....:)...happened to me in darksiders...i was having 150 fps with my 7850 .forced vsync via software fps stable at 60 ..and gpu usage became 39% instead of 100%..try it

Vsync is on at 60 fps. i think my drivers are corrupted because when i was installing drivers during installation it gave me vga driver error or something, when i open ccc i cant see core clocks or memory clocks any where.
