GIKI Fee refund

AOA everyone,

I am in a bad situation here.

I wanted to get admission in a certain program at NUST, my aggregate shows that i may or may not get in that program (mechanical engineering at eme or smme, aggregate 75.2)

Meanwhile i have an offer from GIKI for mechanical engineering.

I want to do mechanical but first preference is NUST, if i don't get into Nust mechanical, i will go to GIK.

GIK has given fee payment deadline of 3rd August, i do not expect nust to release it's merit list by this date.

To be safe, i need to pay my GIK fee, however it is a very large amount.

I would like to know if it is refundable.

You'll be refunded the entire amount EXCEPT the admission fee if you cancel your admission within 7 days of the start of classes.

They'll refund 50% of your tuition fee if you cancel between 7 and 14 days of the start of classes, and you won't get anything back if you cancel after the 14th day.

The above is a requirement set by HEC, and all universes recognised by HEC (which includes GIKI, NUST, PIEAS, FAST, LUMS etc) have the same policy.

I don't know much about GIKI's mechanical engineering but Engineering at NUST is the hype here.Nust is ranked at 481st in the world so I guess that's why .

GIKI kee mechanical is most respected mechanical engineering program among industries in Pakistan... It is freaking awesome...Nust kee bhi aala hhai...but its like among best mechanical engineering programs in Pak, GIKI takes the lead

I'm not in GIKI but a friend of mine who was a brilliant student during his O/A levels just dropped out of GIKI. He says the studies are way too tough, no social life what so ever, charsi environment according to him, GIKI has driven him nuts.
If i were you i would choose nust H12, i mean degree matters most but the social life is equally important, you don't wanna grow up only to realize you missed out on life.

Who decides which university is good for what?

It's up to personal opinion. Someone may like NUST better while another may prefer GIKI.

My point;
Ask people to tell you the facts about unis and then decide for yourself whether you like it or not. Don't ask vague questions like kon si behtar he. Warna baykar ka lamba chaura debate shuru ho jata he jis ka koi outcome nahi hota.

The only problem being is, that facts (owing to the dearth of data) can be misinterpreted, consider HEC rankings for example...I personally advise people to take these rankings with a grain of salt as they might not give a thoroughly accurate picture of how a university "really is"...

For me it's always the type of students that are in the university. because i believe it's the company you have which shapes you and your attributes.

are you sure this is true?? Please tell me the source of this...
NUST havent showed us the merit list so i might have to pay giki's fees before 3 August. my first preference is NUST so i would have to refund fees for giki if my name comes in merit list after 3 August.

I'm sure. Went through the exact same shit last year.

I don't know if it's relevant but i just joined ME program at GIKI and in 3 days this place is driving me so crazy that i am seriously considering getting a refund and going to NUST for CS where i've payed the fee. Partially because i am more interested in CS than i am in ME and partially because as good as this place might be academically, i think the life here will drive me crazy.
