GB 280X OC - Random Blackouts, HALP!

Aoa,

Just putting this out there hoping to get some help on my gpu, so I have a Gigabyte 280X OC 3GB and it was working perfectly since a last few days after i finished quantum break the display started randomly blacking out. As in the display goes out, monitor goes to sleep mode yet the pc keeps running (audio keeps coming as normal, everything is working as it should except the display). I would then have to restart the pc, sometimes hard restart. Then the duration before these blackouts started to shorten to a minute and then finally it gave out altogether..

I thought it was the cable (because hdmi cables are known to fail) so i switched to the onboard vga with the same cable and its working perfectly.. so i guess its the gpu for sure.. I was wondering if there is a shop or some tech wiz that can maybe have a look at my baby and see if they can fix it cuz i really cant afford to get a replacement..

What are your temps ? And does this happen in every game ? Does it happen while browsing/watching videos or other moderate tasks ? What's your Psu ?

Temps used to be normal around 35-40 on idle and then would ramp up to 80 on load, fan was always on auto and would go 100% as needed. It started to happen after I finished QB and started playing Anno 2205 and then even when i wasnt gaming, just doing normal stuff like browsing etc. Then it started to get frequent and now it wont even give out a display. My PSU is a Cooler Master GX 750W, about 2 years old but the amps on rails are still okay as per bios.

I had a similar sort of a problem and replacing the mobo batteries solved it for me.

Tried any other cable such as the DVI ones?

If so, I suggest giving the gpu a shot on another computer to make sure if its working.
The thing you mention most probably leads to a bad connectors, since you could still hear the audio and the game working on.

Tried replacing the mobo batteries and also tried a different cable, no dice. Both of them seemed unlikely because the PC is currently working fine with the same DVI to HDMI cable hooked up to the onboard VGA, that means the cable is fine and so is the battery.

As a side note, is there any hardware guru here in Karachi that I can take my GPU to to have a look? Its not dead im sure of it, must be something that can be fixed if looked at.

I had similar sort of problems in two different cards. one on Hd 7850 (it was motherboard's issue actually, as i was using latest generation gpu on an older version of board. replacing did the resolve). The other one is similar of yours. it started black out frequently while playing GTA V sometimes it takes long time.

Have to checked the PSU performance? is it alright on any other gpu or system. Try to check it out as well. I might think your GPU is repaired internally. just a throwing a past experience of mine.

Detailed specs on such issues come very handy. It goes like help us to help you. Can you post a pic of HWMonitor? Every detail please including the top part showing the voltages on Power Supply. Were you using direct HDMI to HDMI cable or an adapter one?

For the first step of trouble shooting, I would install this graphics card on any other PC (may be of your friends', relatives etc) and check if issue occurs there as well [make sure to use the same drivers and same video cable]. If issue does not produce on other PC then graphics card is ok otherwise you would know who the culprit is.

Editted because you still have normal audio hearing.

Check your display detection, change display port, VGA Cable to monitor, Monitor power supply.

If GPU fails, all comes to an halt with gibberish noise in audio in-case you're hearing something.
