External Hard disk I/O error

Guys i need help.I cant open any of the partition.Its maxtor one touch 160gb hard disk..It has worked for 5 years.this is the first time i m facing this problem.There is very important old date in it..Can somebody guide me how to fix it..Thanks

I cant check it with anything..It freezes everything related to hard disk when its connected..I cant open manage,Stellar phoenix or anything..It just hangs..

Maybe overheating issue. Check if its overheating? If yes take it to a repairing shop he will put a small heatsink on the PCB. Went through the same experience

check its temperature from cpuid hwmonitor or touch the pcb board and see if it is very hot or not

What do you mean there is an old date in it? Why did you put dry fruit inside your hard disk?

PS: I think your hard disk is toast. Throw it in the dust bin and buy a new one. And next time remember to keep backups of your important old dates
