My fellow gamers
I want to share something very important with you all gamers, we who live in our own little world, even in this hell called pakistan we try to stay happy,
our salvation, video games.
DO you know that by international US law Laptop companies are required to label Refurbished laptops and come with 1 year warranty,
In pakistan every single Laptop seller sells Refurbished laptops in pakistan, this is how it works:
They buy refurbished laptops that come with one year warranty and open the box, remove its "Refurbished" sticker and sell it as new, you will not be able to
find a single laptop shop that sell Company Sealed laptops, many of them lie by putting ordinary Squash tape on it and call it Sealed, rest of them
say " who hum je laptop check karnay kay leay seal kholtay hay takay pata chalay laptop tuta tho nahi hay", do you really think that dell will sell broken laptops,
with all the protection inside the box there is no way the laptop will brake, i have actually seen video of dell sealed box endurance video which proves them absolutely wrong,
each company has there own unique seal with there company logos or with warning "do not open seal". As for the rest of the repaired laptops, they are sold as refurbished or
open boxes laptops, that is why they don't come with warranty and the shopkeepers don't take responsibility for it. on average these shopkeepers make about 1.5 Lakh by this fraud,
which is unfair. Consumer laws sucks in pakistan, politics sucks in Pakistan , everything sucks in Pakistan, i will hate and curse Pakistan till my death,
the only thing that kept me happy was finally corrupted by unpardh Jahill angutha chaap computer/laptop shopkeepers. So why this situation occurred,
too many computer/laptop shops. Government ridiculous tax on IT sector which also includes computers/laptops which pass through customs. do you know that
Alienware which costs (approx 1910$) 2 lakh Rs will become 3-3.5 lakh Rs in pakistan. that is for the new laptops, these shopkeepers sell refurbished laptops at the same
price of a new one, some times even the laptops sold as new are actually repaired or second hand used laptops. I hate this country.
WHAT DO YOU THINK WE SHOULD DO???
The problem with refurbished laptops is that, these days companies like Dell tries to fix the returned laptop, if it gets fixed then OK, but if it does not gets fixed then they still sell it as refurbished if the problem is not severe and not noticeable. If the customer finds then it is returned again, well returnable only if you live in a country were dell outlets exists. And that is the real problem, It's a gamble buying a refurbished laptop. That's why most of the laptops in Pakistan that you buy has some kind of problem here are there which you find sooner or later. I have bought many laptops in my life, this is my 11th laptop Alienware 17 R3, One Place i know for shure with experience that is full of corrupt, thieves, liers:
Dubai Plaza & on its opposite road Midway Plaza at 6th road Rawalpindi
both of these places are full of laptop shops, shops are too many and buyers not much so what they do to survive, they literally, most of them sell laptops that are repaired, damaged or with huge problems or with set of small problems great in number AS NEW. I heard so many complaints from this place, laptops going bad after few months use, one name that stood out the most was the "LAPTOP SHOP" owned by Ayaz i think, in Midway plaza, dude this guy is super skilled in selling damaged or bad laptops and at hefty prices, this guy is super greedy, for example a laptop that costs 80k Rs in market, he will sell it to you at 1Lakh or 110,000 Rs, and no doubt it will have some serious problem which you may or may not notice. and ofcourse they are refurbished or repaired laptops, with squash tape on it to be sold as New.
since I am experienced in buying laptops and i know a lot about them, A LOT, people around me contact me if they want to buy something with good latest specs or if they just need some info. Hell even people in my office come to me rather then going to IT section if they have some kind of problem or want to buy new laptops.
Now some info for you guys if you are planning to buy a new laptop
Processors Prefixes:
U processors come with Dual cores and has 4 threads and is soldered to motherboard
HQ processors come with Quad cores and has 8 threads, "H" means soldered & "Q" means Quad cores
MQ processors come with Quad cores and has 8 threads, "M" means not-soldered/socketed(can be upgraded/swapped from i3 to i5/i7 or i5 to i7) and can be changed & "Q" for Quad cores
HK processors come with Quad cores and has 8 threads, "H" means soldered and "K" means Over Clockable
First always try to buy i7 if you're planning to use it for intensive software work like AutoCAD or programming or video encoding and stuff alike, since i7 has hyper-threading so you can juice out maximum performance from processors.
This time the difference between 6th and 7th gen HQ processors is non except 300MHz or 0.3GHz frequency difference, Wattage is the same as well as the Die size. 7th gen is like the optimized overclocked version of 6th gen,
The Architecture is almost the same this time with one more difference.
6th gen single core performance is better then 7th gen.
7th gen multi core performance is better then 6th gen.
Note: that i7-6820HK(4.1GHz Overclocked) is better then i7-7700HQ(3.8GHz) in terms of performance
NVidia GTX graphic cards comparison of 900 and 1000 Series:
If you consider 960m performance/speed as 100% approx. then
960m 100% {equivalent of} 1050m 105% with less Wattage thus meaning less heat dissipation and is cheaper compared to 900 series equivalent
970m 130% {equivalent of} 1050m Ti 140% with less Wattage thus meaning less heat dissipation and is cheaper compared to 900 series equivalent
980m 170% {equivalent of} 1060m 175% with less Wattage thus meaning less heat dissipation and is cheaper compared to 900 series equivalent
1070m 195%
I have no information of 1080m performance
Screen Sizes (available in laptops currently in market , the ones i know of, except for Real 4K):
HD = High Definition 1280x720
FHD = Full High Definition 1920x1080
QHD = Quad HD 2560x1440
UHD (Also called 4K but is not full size 4K horizontally) = Ultra High definition 3840x2160
4K = 4096x2160 (Not available in laptops)
Screen Types:
TN Panel (Old Tech), Have washing out of colors problem at angles
IPS Panel (New Tech), The washing out of colors problem have been solved but the screen display refresh rate and response time is slow
Problems of current few laptops available in market that i know of:
All laptops with UHD 4K screens have scaling issue, which may get fixed in the future like after a year or so, the softwares that i know of which do not scale correctly are VLC, AutoCAD and few games do not scale correctly and cannot be fixed, icons appear super tiny & hard to see or click (tested in Win10), accept in games, problem solved by not playing in UHD 4k, by lowering the resolution.
Dell 15" 7559 6th Gen = has video&audio stuttering and hissing sound from speaker problem, the stuttering is caused by voltage issue, testing showed that graphic card Intel/960m struggles and craves for voltage, specially when sensors get activated and fan spins up or down, this is a hardware issue and cannot be fixed, Used "SpeedFan" software to aid in testing theory by enabling "Dell Support" function available for Dell notebooks in software "Options" tab in "configure" to control Fan Speed and enable other sensors. I think this is probably caused by the dell decision to use DDR3(old gen left overs) rather then DDR4 to save money, DDR3 for laptops uses 1.35V while the DDR4 for laptops uses 1.25V. The 6th Gen was basically designed to be compatible with the newer DDR4 RAM.
Dell 15" 7567 7th Gen DDR4 = Has a seriously washed out TN screen problem, buy the IPS one in FHD if you can find one. Has some HDMI display problem
Lenovo 14", 15" & 17" Y700 6th Gen DDR4 = performance is not what it should be, cannot utilize full power of processors or Graphic card (960m), gets throttled.
I hope i was of some help
