Custom duty on bringing monitor from USA

So I've been looking to purchase a good monitor, and I've realized options are better and cheaper in the USA. This got me thinking if my friend, who's going to visit soon, could bring one over. I'm not sure if this makes a difference, but my friend is an American citizen and has been living there for 20 years. He'll be visiting for 2-3 weeks. He can unpack the monitor and pack it in his bag between clothes, though I don't know how safe this is.

Any idea if he'll be charged by customs? I purchased a laptop from Dell and he brought it over about 5 months ago, and there was no issue.

I have purchased 2 monitors so far (27inches) from the US. Each of the monitors were around Rs. 30-40k cheaper there. I got my sister to bring them over both times in the luggage. No issues, no duties whatsoever.

One point to consider is that those monitors are HUGE and took up the entire luggage space. Your friend may find it inconvenient to bring over something so huge.
