I am sure there are guys in our community who do play the instrument, so calling them all.

So I used to have a couple of acoustics 7,8 years back. played a bit back then, forgot most of it, and am looking to pick it up again.
This time around though, since I have the luxury to buy a decent electric guitar at a decent price, I would love to hear what recommendations I get.
I know little about electric guitars, so mind you.

I would recommand using thomann.de for looking up models for suggestions

Fender's (HSS pickup
( Fender Squier Bullet Stratocaster Electric Guitar - basswood body, maple neck, rosewood fretboard, 21 medium frets, 648mm scale, thomann 42mm nut width, synchronous tremolo, 1x humbucker (bridge) and 2x single coil (neck/middle) pickups
or

Harley Benton ST-20HSS SB Standard Series, electric guitar, basswood body, bolt-on maple neck with modern C-shape, rosewood fretboard thomann with DOT inlays, 22 frets, 648mm scale lenght, 42mm nut width, double-action trussrod, HSS pickup
This was much preferred: (2 hum, 1 single coil pickup) Ibanez GRX70 .though a bit expensive

or should I stick with one of those guitar kits (that includes amps and stuff), also aren't expensive

If I remember correctly, @Bad Mofo you know a bit about this.

I'd go with the one that has 22 frets, since that brings better practice and gets you learning theory as a whole. Plus more complete songs man! Not too sure about the guitars you specifically mentioned, but Ibanez is great from what I've (tried to) played.

Dude, don't get into the whole 22 vs 24 fret business. I've got both kinds, and you hardly use the frets above the 19th 99.9% of the time. Plus you can always bend the 22nd string on the high E two steps up to get to E!

But I digress.

Budget guitars have gotten a whole lot better ever since I started playing. I bought someone a Squire S/S/S Strat a year back brand new and it was 80% of my American made Strat for 20% of the price. So whatever you pick, you should be sorted.

However, before I recommend you one, could I know what kind of music are you into? I do recommend a Strat to anyone, it's one of those must have guitars. But if you're a hardcore metalhead that spits on all other kinds of music, I would not recommend it to you.

I just re - read your post, and yeah, an H/S/S configuration is pretty flexible. But still.

The thing with Ibanez guitars is that I hate the neck on them. It goes from weird and thin at the nut to wide and thin at the bridge. It's kind of like a toothpick. Now, if you're full-on shred that might be what you want, but personally, I like fat necks. Fender necks are right in the middle of Gibson's baseball bat thick necks and Ibanez toothpick thin necks.

So, at this point without knowing what kind of music you're into, I'd recommend the Squire. I'm a slight Fender fanboy, they make good gear.

BUT.....

What amp are you going to be using? Don't skim on the amp. The amplifier is responsible for 50% of the experience of an electric guitar. Give that serious thought.

Hope I was helpful. Do feel free to ask me anything.

I would also pay attention to the amp more. And about the frets, I would agree with Bad Mofo but my point was just on practicing. Plus I'm a metalhead so maybe there's that too. I have a 24 fret guitar and I just tried using those for solos and making effects. Mentioned the complete songs point because I was thinking bands like Opeth, Pantera and many others. lol

Anyway I'm shit on it anyway. But yeah do look into some good amps while you search for the guitar.

music style I would say more like punk rock, rock, sometime a bit of blues ...hmm nirvana, Metallica, Opeth, alter bridge, rolling stones, pink floyd, Fleetwood Mac LP, porcupine tree, coke studio pakistan, ..but a bit of metal aswell..thts why I am not thinking of going for HHH
If I am honest, I haven't given a thought to picking out an amp. I thought I would just grab one.

A Strat with a HSS is near perfect for that. The middle+neck position on them Strats is made for the blues. And the humbucker should sort those metal cravings.

As far as an amp goes, how much spare cash are you willing to put into it?

around 50 euros, I guess....remember pls that I live in a student house, so compromise on power is not an issue.
I would recommand looking at the link below, since this is prolly where I buy from.
Amplifiers for Electric Guitars - Thomann UK (it says UK , but it is a german store)

BTW http://www.thomann.de/gb/fender_mustang_mini.html please look at this..I know its a bit more expensive, but if its worth it, we can choose this

One more thing I just had on my mind..I hope I dont sound illogical...I have a decent 2.1 Logitech audio setup..isnt there a way I can just run the guitar through it?

Not illogical at all! If you have a PC, I'd recommend getting a USB input device and get an amp modelling software. I use Amplitube, I love it. You can play it through your speakers. That way, you'll pay for a USB input thing, and the software is basically free. I know student housing can be a Abuses will lead to ban, so you can plug in your headphones and jam away as well.

No worries!

If you're in the UK, I'd suggest get a subscription to Guitar Techniques. It's possibly the best way to learn guitar. Apart from that, you can find random free artciles on Ultimate Guitar and even Guitar World.

Tones and effects are a matter of personal choice. Amplitube has a lot of emulations of world class effects that'll give you a taste of what their real world counterpart will sound like. Remember, one person's tonal heaven is another person's hell! It's very subjective.

Actually, I have never played an electric guitar and have been playing a single chinese-made acoustic for the past ten years. So my experience with guitars starts and ends right there. :p

Started Dead Island 2, and i find it pretty lame. The story is shit. The characters are either cringe or bland (all 6 of them), The gameplay isn't fun. Even the goddamn zombies don't behave like proper zombies. They're all fast & intelligent unlike how zombies are supposed to be like. Any fan of "zombie" genre cannot possibly like this shitfest of a game. Dying Light 2 was million times better than this shit.

tbh gaming industry as a whole is failing much like tech industry. They have buckled down too much to Corporate suites then relying on passionate and innovative people. A corporate only believes in financial growth and shareholders.
