Hey there guys and gals. Father Innceptionist here (oops!)..my mistake, I'm gonna talk about something interesting here that you probably don't give two shits about, neither will you — but anyway, it's better to know about new things so you better pay some attention or I WILL...humbly request you, dear. Alright, now I'll cut the crap and get down to the main point.

This is not a guide to the vast field of Search Engine Optimization, just a basic overview of the things. SEO is substantially filled with potential, you can imagine the power of this field by looking at people who have become millionaires and 7-figure earners on the Internet by applying the knowledge and practices of this field. I won't jump directly to SEO, because it may put you in confusion.

Search engine

Before we go deep down in SEO, let's talk about search engine first. Does any of you little minions know what a search engine is? I BET YOU DO, BIRADAR! (I mean bro, in a Persian way). Basically, search engine is a computer program that searches for queries and keywords entered by a user. The importance of search engine can be described by a simple example — suppose you enter a library and you're looking for information about Seagate 2TB Hard Drive in a book that is dedicated to Hard Drives. You will undoubtedly find information about that specific hard drive, but how long will it take? I can't say about that for sure.

Search engines were developed to eliminate this issue. Now you've access to your exact query in half a second. Let's make it easy: when you type something or enter a keyword (let's say Lions) in Google's search field, you find your relevant information. Now, have you ever thought how did Google know you were looking for lions? You'd probably say, “Because I searched for Lions.”

Search engines have huge databases in which billions of webpages and documents are stored, so when you type “Lions”, Google navigates through all these billions of webpages and documents, arranges most relevant data according to your keyword and displays the results on your screen. This process takes happen in a blink of eye. There are different search engines on the Internet, with Google being the most popular and largest engine. There are two types of search results in a search engine:

Organic: The webpages that are optimized for search engines fall under the category of Organic or Natural search results.

Inorganic: The webpages that have paid the search engines to appear in search results are known as Inorganic or Paid search results.

Differentiating between low, medium and high competitive industries are beyond the scope of this article.

Is SEO really important?

Short answer: yes. As SEO is directly linked with search engines and majority of the traffic comes from here, so SEO is no-brainer. While social media plays a vital role in brand awareness but majority of the Internet users are navigating through the search engines to find answers, information and useful data. As you can see that 80% of traffic comes from Google, so the primary objective of an SEO expert is to rank the website in this engine.

Where can I learn SEO?

You can get free SEO education all over the Internet but I recommend you starting with Moz's Beginner Guide - it's currently the best for beginners. The best way to learn SEO is by implementing and applying the practices you learn. So much false SEO theory is widespread so compare the statements from 2 or more sources.
