Murree sucks. Period. Glad you are not planning to go there.
I don't think you can even go to Naran/Kaghan in this season as the glaciers block the road. Those places open up at the end of April/Start of May usually.
If you are visiting Abbottabad, it would be best to visit relatively nearby locations as those are areas to go for. Abbottabad itself isn't anything special to visit IMO. It's just your usual northern area city, perhaps the most developed, but that isn't saying much. Hotel One has a branch here, which is a nice place for stay. There is also Demanchi Hotel, which is another good option for a stay. There are tons of other smaller hotels that you can find along the road.
Places to visit after reaching Abbottabad:
NathiaGali is the best place in my opinion. And along its way, from Abbottabad, you can stop by for other popular locations like Harnoi (It's a river/stream area). There is an old suspension bridge there which is pretty nice. NathiaGali is at a much higher height, but its road are fine. Now, these days, there will be snow, but unless you are coming RIGHT after a snowfall, there shouldn't be any issues reaching NathiaGali. IT will look beautiful with snowcovered peaks. And there are guest houses and hotels there if one wants to stay there instead.
NathiaGali has a popular dish called "Mirchi Dar Chicken" or "Patakha Chicken" as some like to call it. The Hotel "Taj Mahal" was the original creator of this dish and is a very old one. Good stuff, along with their Daal. You can also get this from a nicer Hotel called "Afaq Hotel", and they have a small viewpoint eating area, which definitely makes for a good lunch time.
A nearby location in Abbottabad is the Shimla Hill. There is a park there, but I haven't been there ever since my childhood, so I can't say what the situation is now, but you can reach it in about 20 mins or so, not far. If you go there at night, Abbottabad does look beautiful with all the city lights. There is a small Dhabha there where we usually go in Summers to chill and whatnot.
Just like NathiaGali, there is also Thandiani, another mountain place to visit. Its roads are not that good and for that reason, majority always goes to NathiaGali. But it is beautiful nonetheless.
Places to eat in Abbottabad itself:
There is the famous Ilyasi Mosque and its "Pakoray". And alongside is the Ilyasi hill. Many people buy the food and hike to the top and eat it there. View is nice, and so is the ambience.
Masood Tikka Shop is another local place for good food. It's right alongside the GT Road and has great "Siekh Kabab" and "Tikka".
Note: Both of the above-mentioned places are not a place where one would take their family (Not developed, no proper sitting area for families, more like friends and guy places), so we usually just buy the stuff and go somewhere else to eat, unless I'm with friends only.
Then there is Shinwari Restuarant which is famous for "Dumba Karahi".
Then there is Jadoon Plaza, which is like a small Market of sorts compared to big cities and has tons of shops of all kinds. You can find fast foods there as well as Cafes which sell steaks and desserts and whatnot. I would recommend Coffuty Cafe in it. It has some good cakes.
Then there is Jughiyan, which is the way to NathiaGali etc, and there are some good Kabli Restaurants there. I don't know if they are still there considering the recent Afghan Refugee situation. Would be a shame cause they made some good "Kabli Palao and Tikka".
There are other places as well but these are just from the top of my head.
It will be cold at night, so do bring warm wear.
P.S Congratulations on getting married. And I am now realizing that you might have already finished your trip.
