I've been using a 4mbps modem from PTCL for about year. I would get excellent speeds. Recently, I decided to get a WI-FI router. Now this now router fixed a number of issues, but created a new one. My internet is very slow. I've ran a few speed tests, and the best speed I got was 3.4 MBPS. In most games like BF3, CoD etc, in most servers where I usually get a 60-80 ping, I'm getting 90-140 ping :S . I have complained to PTCL and am waiting for them to reply to my complaint, but do you guys have any suggestions or ideas that might causing this or even a possible fix?

P.S: Some people say WI-FI is slow and I should use my ethernat cable. Even with ethernet cables it is slow.

This device is from PTCL! Hmm!

Seems to be router based limitation in your case. PTCL should give you a faster device IMO.

Give PTCL a chance first.

^Modem/Router shouldn't be an issue here (In most cases at least).

Show me your line stats and which modulation are you using, ADSL2+ or G.DMT? & check speed through IDM from a direct download link, don't rely on speedtest.net.

Your line looks fine though I would suggest you to change your modulation to G.DMT. You can do this by going to Advanced Setup--> ADSL and uncheck everything except G.DMT, uncheck bitswap and SRA (seamless rate adaptation) as well.

Firefox downloader is always slow, I mean I get around 300KB/s+- on FF while I get full 1.20MB/s on IDM. Check download speed from a well seeded torrent (preferably a private tracker torrent) or a good direct download link through IDM or try speedtest.net again (Karachi PTCL server).

Okay. I've changed it to G.DMT. The speed test remained the same. Now I'm going to try a download from IDM and report back soon.

EDIT: I downloaded a 100 MB file using IDM. The best speed I got was 260KBPS and the average was around 180-210KBPS! :mad:

Why?
Because of THIS.

As for the question why are you getting Higher Pings, then make sure you are connected through Ethernet Cable. If you are playing games on your Lappy which obviously requires connectivity through WiFi (usually) ... then you may (or may not) get slightly higher pings than usual.

If your Modulation is set to G.DMT (as said by StrikerX), you dont need to touch any other settings because there isn't anything you possibly do.

Well, recently somehow (probably because I was sort of ignorant) my internet speed has increased. Probably because of the modulation settings.....
It may have been PTCL, because I got a call from them saying that they fixed it...
Well either my internet is fast as usual. Thanks guys!

    Started Dead Island 2, and i find it pretty lame. The story is shit. The characters are either cringe or bland (all 6 of them), The gameplay isn't fun. Even the goddamn zombies don't behave like proper zombies. They're all fast & intelligent unlike how zombies are supposed to be like. Any fan of "zombie" genre cannot possibly like this shitfest of a game. Dying Light 2 was million times better than this shit.

    tbh gaming industry as a whole is failing much like tech industry. They have buckled down too much to Corporate suites then relying on passionate and innovative people. A corporate only believes in financial growth and shareholders.
