Yeh i have my fingers crossed for XIII-2. Hope it will remove the negatives of XIII and introduce some positives...
XII was too much randomised with it's battle, all we had to do was get in battle with a monster and just sit back and watch our characters do the work for us. I even remember that i had slept countless times throughout the very large mark hunts and i remember the last mark(forgot his name) took me more than 6 hours of seeing all of my party hack and slash at the monster(Although i died because i slept in the middle of battle -_-, never attempted it again

These are the points on which i agree with you 100%. The lack of sidequests seriously sucked although i didn't mind the lack of towns as much as i missed the sidequests.
Another thing common in both XII and XIII is that both have lame main Villians. I am not a fan of XII final boss, neither did i like XIII.
I am more of a futuristic style guy you can say, i loved FFX cause of it's mix of new and old times...
Gran Pulse was the only place that didn't make me lose my faith in XIII and IMO XIII at least had it's emotional parts on the other hand i don't remember a single emotional thing from XII.
Without no emotions there is no FF for me.

Don't mistake me, i liked XII, infact i have 100+ hours clocked on it which was the 2nd Final Fantasy after X on which i spent 100 hours but still the experience of XII was forgetful at best.
FFXIII wasn't exactly a kiddie game, It was semi politics i guess but this time politics weren't the center of attention unlike XII
I told you that when i said graphics i meant the open world environment and as you said open world games usually have bland environment. I was not comparing it's graphics with XIII(geez -_-)
Lighting may not have much character wise but her character design was great, the one who had the deepest character development would have got to be Szach(He and his kid always reminded me of Will Smith and Jaden Smith from Pursuit of Happyness (lmao)). The characters were way much better then XII where we got transexuals like Vaan, and a princess with a strippers dress who always missed her husband a.k.a Ashe. Not much decent characters made XII a dull experience for me(Balthier was decent and i was not particularly a fan of Basch or Fran).
