The PREVIEW :

-Graphics are stunning, superb, inmense. From lights effects to facial effects. Some guy tell that its the most powerfull game of this generation. No doubts.

-Sounds are in the same line of graphics. Simply awesome. Totally inmerse. The soundtrack its just perfect.

-You can listen the radio, watch TV, talk with people,s village.

-The daytime its very very beautiful. But when night arrive, you can feel the scary.

- I read that the special edition its very cheap (5 euros more than normal eddition). ¿True? Its a Remedy answer suppose.

- All lucky guys assist/play Alan Wake event said that its one of the best games of this generation. They leave the presentation very very impressed. And saids that its better that they thought.

-In conclussion, Remedy do it again. I cant wait to play it.

Remedy 'Threw Away Six Months Of Work' Due To 'One Big Mistake'

Wednesday, 24 Feb 2010 - 09:06AM
Alan Wake's been coming for a long time. Six years to be precise. But when Remedy Entertainment started development on the highly anticipated title, they didn't realise that six months later, all would be thrown away and started again.
Why? Well in an interview with GI.biz, Remedy managing director Matias Myllyrine says it was due to one big mistake:
"We did make one big mistake, and we came back from that - it was trying to make a sandbox structure to a thriller, and that just really wasn't working. It felt deluded, and the pacing wasn't right - for a thriller the pacing is important, you need a bit of foreshadowing.
We probably threw away six months of work, which doesn't sound that bad, but it's a lot of work with substantial teams... we saw we could deliver an okay game, but it wasn't going to be a heart-pounding ride, it wasn't going to be a thriller in the true sense of the word."
Myllyrine also revealed that the game had been finished - other than polishing, balancing, tuning etc. - and fully playable since June last year.
The game releases exclusively for Xbox 360 in May, and is one of the most anticipated titles of 2010.

This is truly a mark of a company that is purely dedicated to providing it's customers a memorable experience that is true to the core and not doctrined or forced....I salute you REMEDY :D

^Didn't we already know that?

But making a sandbox game out of a thriller like this would've been really challenging and as he said, the pacing is the most important thing. They're a small group of people working on this anyway. I would've loved to explore Bright Falls without any limitations... ah well, a pop corn flick can't be that bad :p

Aww, trying to do something different and they fell straight on their collective asses. Wasn't that the whole catch of the game? How is this any different from any other entry in the thriller genre now?

^ Every game doesn't need to be "different" to be great....It just needs to do what its trying to do, better than others...

That is a flawed statement my friend, without evolution man would still be living in caves. I still think it's going to be a great game but they're not doing anything to set themselves apart from the rest

I'm glad they had the sense to leave that "Sandbox thriller" notion behind early on, A sandbox Alan Wake would've been mediocre if not a complete disaster.

I still think it's going to be a great game but they're not doing anything to set themselves apart from the rest
But then again Uncharted 2 (last year's GOTY) wasn't different from other games either, trying something new with a game is a huge risk and sometimes it can end up being a disaster, Most Devs will avoid that and Remedy is no different.

I don't believe so. Lots of games out there that don't bring any thing new to the table, they just mix up ideas from different games and focus on one aspect....Whatever that might be, story, gameplay e.t.c...And when they play their cards right, the final game ends up being something truly amazing.

If developers know their limits and don't try to get ahead of themselves would only prove better for their product.

Evolution with games happens once in a while, not every game brings something completely new that no one else has done before.....Gizmo just gave you an example of Uncharted 2. Thats all....

EDIT:

@My first post,

I only said what any game needs to do (atleast) to be a great game. Not saying everyone should adopt this strategy of course.

The more freedom you give to the player, the harder it gets to deliver a good narrative and storyline, which is the most important part of a thriller, Take Fallout 3 for example, the player was given so much freedom that we could actually skip more than half the main quests. That's why games like FF13 and Mass Effect 2 are alot more linear.

Alan wake just wouldn't work well as a Sand box game.

seeing as how the thing Remedy have been talking about since day 1 is the story, it makes sense that they'll want to keep a tight leash on character progression. It's different for each game and if Remedy thinks this is best for this game, what can we say.

they have made a good decision just imagine how would it be if the game was "sandbox" like Alan driving a tractor to kill those abnormal shadow creatures.good decision by REMEDY.THIS WAS JUST AN EXAMPLE THAT HOW WOULD BE THE STORY IF THE GAME WAS SANDBOX.

A game doesn't have to be linear to give a compelling narrative or an overall enjoyable experience (G-T- f**kin-A anyone???).

Whats the discussion here anyway? Applauding Remedy for 'putting 6 months to waste to give us a better game'? They probably hit a wall somewhere (no pun intended) and decided to ditch the sandbox nature of the game. They initially thought it would work well for some reason too right? No one complained then. Either way, if the challenge was too much to bare, it was common sense to take a different route. Maybe some other dev would've dealt with it better.

Exactamundo, anyways isn't it the player's choice whether he wants to stick with the story or to go galavanting about the place. Until they're finally able to make a game that is successfully able to incorporate the whole sandbox thing into a thriller, which kinda seems pointless after this whole discussion, this one'll have to do
