- The Electropylon gun, Rotgland Lobber, and Hollowseeker are your friends. Use any weapon you find that deals damage over time to enemies. The Electropylon gun and Rotgland Lobber have this available from the start, but you need to unlock a few traits before you start getting it frequently with the Hollowseeker or other weapons.
- At the obolite repository, whenever you see the suit upgrade that restores your health with an increase in adrenaline, grab it asap. It's the best upgrade in the game, but it only lasts for that run.
- Don't redo boss fights on new runs. Head straight to the next biome once you have a decent weapon (such as the Electropylon gun), and, if possible, get the astronaut from the obolite repository before doing so.
- Use the Reconstructor to get respawned if you get taken out in a biome that you haven't yet completed
Yup I have been doing more or less the same things now except I dont think I have come across Electropylon or Rotgland Lobber at the moment. Hollowseeker for the moment is the best gun for me with the huge clip size and decent damage over time. I'm not really in complete sync with weapon traits at the moment though, maybe need to read a bit more on that.

Finished the first 2 bosses and now at the citadel. This game is extremely addictive if you can manage to get past the first couple of hours an understand how things work. It can seem a bit overwhelming at first but the after the first few hours you just cannot let go of the controller. Excellent stuff by Housemarque (y)

Traits are weapon upgrades that carry over across runs. They're listed under a weapon's stats. Sometimes, you'll come across two variants of the same weapon with a different set of traits. In that case, it's good to switch over to the variant that has new traits to unlock. As you continue to unlock traits for your weapons of choice, it increases the probability of finding the same weapon in a future run with a bunch of traits already unlocked.

Man, I dont think this game is getting enough attention given how good it is. Just finished the 4th boss (Hyperion), that too on my first attempt.

It's extremely rare for a game of this sort to make the grind fun and interesting through out each and every run but Returnal does that with impeccable level and creature designs along with exceptional game mechanics. I am having an absolute blast with the game at the moment.

There's one person who gave it a lot of attention, and that's Necrokiller. 2nd highest post count in this thread 😄
So, kind of like Starfield is getting alot of attention from someone. Guess who has the 2nd highest post count in the Starfield thread? :ROFLMAO:

Returning to Returnal news, the game is already $50 on sale in under 2 months. Yiiiikes.

Moment of silence for people who paid $70.

And DONE !!!

This game was absolutely phenomenal. Especially in terms of gameplay. Honestly its one of those game that you just don't want to end and you just want to keep going at. The ending of the game felt a bit rushed to me but I think thats because the story relies a lot on symbolism but it it intriguing nonetheless. A couple more boss fights would have been fantastic and i was a little disappointed that there was no boss fight in the 5th Biome. But honestly the excellent gameplay accompanied by the random level design has immense replay value so its not that big of a deal.

I am not a big fan of rogue-likes but this game has completely changed my perception on that genre. Just goes to show how well made the game really is. I hope Housemarque ups the ante even more with their next game because its clear that the studio has immense talent.

Excellent game and a must play for every PS5 owner out there.

Finish Act 3 and get the true ending :p

How awesome was it when you realize Hyperion was

playing don't fear the reaper
throughout the boss fight, and the significance it holds to the game's storyline. One of the many highlights.

I can relate with this as well. Hades got repetitive and boring fast, but this kept me hooked until the very end. I still find myself loading up the game every now and then to do a random run. The gameplay is just sublime. Housemarque's arcade roots are clearly visible here (several aspects remind me of Nex Machina), but it's also clear that Harry Kreuger and co. are huge Metroid fans.

Yeah thats what i plan to do now and i think the subsequent runs would be easier now will all the unlocks equipped. And on the plus side, and this is a testament to how good the game is, the farming does not intimidate me at all because i know that i am going to have a blast in pretty much every run.

Yeah I think Hades is an example that i can definitely relate too. That game got boring pretty much in the the starting 4-6 hours of the initial grind. Given the reception that game got I thought maybe my smaller screen was to blame for that since i played it on the Switch in handheld mode. The gameplay was decent but it just doesn't hold a candle against Returnal in pretty much any aspect.

And done with ACT 3 as well. Man every time i put my controller down, I am nothing but impressed by this game. It is just too damn good. This game alone was worth getting the PS5, at least for me.

I hope Housemarque comes up with some sort of multiplayer DLC for this game. A PVP mode of sorts would be interesting because the mechanics are there to exploit.

A higher score than the most anticipated game of 2020. Looking forward to playing it (y)
GameCrtics - 6.5/10

Whether the story pays off is up to personal interpretation (for me, it did not) but putting that aside, Returnal’s general lack of persistence, enthusiasm for negative items, and heavy focus on twitch skill without options for self-regulating difficulty results in an experience that caters to a very, very specific type of player and coldly shrugs off the rest.

You reap what you sow. This is what happens when you take away choice from consumers. Even with 88% split going to developers, they can't recoup costs. Meanwhile, Helldivers 2 is a massive hit for Sony thanks in big part to Steam.
